GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Gibson Les Paul Studio?

Posted by: IceAngel Feb 22 2011, 01:04 AM

Hey guys,

I don't think I've ever posted in the forum before (Let's hope first time's a charm), so I'm a bit unsure about this whole thing, but here we go!

For several years now, I have wanted to buy a Gibson Les Paul studio (alpine white, silver hardware), and seeing as I'm starting at a music school in March, I figured I'd go ahead and finally treat myself to the guitar of my dreams. As it turns out though, the guitar I'm looking for seems to be sold out in both the UK and Sweden (which is where I live), and there's a 3 - 6 months waiting list to get one. I couldn't even find it on Amazon.com. Does anybody here know where I could get/order one, or is it really sold out?

I was also wondering whether there's two "different" types of the Les Paul studio, because the guitar I've had my eyes on sell for approximately 900-1000 dollars in Sweden, while the guitar listed on Gibson's website sell for 1,799. To add to my confusion further, the Les Pauls I've played have had EMG pickups, but these days the studio apparently comes with a 498T and 490R...

To sum it up, I'd be extremely grateful if someone could offer some insight to the following:

1. Is there anywhere I could get a Gibson Les Paul studio in Alpine white with Silver hardware, or will I just have to wait those 6 something months to get one?

2. Is there "two" types of Les Paul Studios, or does the different pickups just have to do with when the guitar was manufactured?

Thanks!

From what I know of the regular Les Paul Studio, the body doesn't have a maple top. So if you want that traditional Les Paul tone, you would probably have to go with the Studio Deluxe or some other LP configuration that does have the maple top. The maple top on LPs is not a laminate, its actually a fairly thick piece of wood, so it does alter the tone of the guitar.

Very well said Mudbone smile.gif As for getting a Les Paul in Alpite white or what not, I'm sure there is already one out there with whatever you want on it. Try Ebay. You just have to be willing to fork over some serious coin.

A normal Gibson LP Studio has no EMG's in it wink.gif Never tongue.gif

If the guitar you played really was a Gibson les paul studio, it was modded by someone. There's nothing wrong with putting EMG's in your LP, but it doesn't come like that standard wink.gif

The prices listed on the official Gibson site are usually about double of what store prices are, i dont know why.. but dont look at the Gibson site if you want to know what they cost tongue.gif
Lp Studio usually goes for about 1000 euros over here
