GMC Forum _ Uploads _ Instrumental Tune, Kris & Marcus

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 15 2008, 02:51 PM

I am so proud of this tune I can hardly sit still! biggrin.gif

This is my first two-solo-guitarists-tune ever, and I think that's the case for Marcus too. (not sure though)

Have a listen to http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=6535, read the full blog post http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/blog/?p=141, or download all our tunes http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/kmc-metal.htm.

Looking forward to your feedback unsure.gif

Really cool Kris & Marcus - I love the feel of this song - laid back, yet urgent at the same time, a beautiful arrangemant and some cool playing - can't wait to buy the full KMC album!

Marcus programmed the drums - I believe he uses "sampletank" with various drum sounds he has found.

That's great to hear! biggrin.gif It was part of the plan when starting GMC that we would inspire people - not just show you exercises. I personally believe very much in learning directly from music - when possible!

Absolutely! I'll upload the backing track here a.s.a.p, but of course you guys will also find it in the lesson (which is on the way) smile.gif

Thanks again, for the comments!! biggrin.gif

I'd like to answer one question here, which was asked in the http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/blog/?p=141#comments

Q: "Could we have a list of equipment used and such? That lead tone is fanTASTIC!"

A: The only equipment used for the guitar sound is a PODxt. But here's the cool thing; We "re-amped" Kris guitar to make our tones work better together/make them sound more a like. So basically, when Kris recorded his guitar he split the signal and recored it on two tracks. The first track was the regular output signal from his amp (POD), and the second track was the clean direct signal from his guitar.

Then I just run that clean guitar track through my PODxt... and Voila'! worked great smile.gif

That's cool but if Kris has a pod why not just make Kris use the same patch as you?

By download - but it isn't finished yet! You can find the four songs we have got ready http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/kmc-metal.htm! smile.gif

Good question - this calls for a little correction, what I use is my peavey amp and a "red box" which works a little like the pod. I connect it to the speaker output from my amp directly into the mixerboard.

But with the splitting method Marcus described (which is awesome! biggrin.gif) - he can take my clean sound and make it sound almost exactly like his! And I get to play with may favorite sound when I am recording my take.

Also - we don't really know exactly what patch to go for until we have finished the song and done some tweaking - that's why it's great to keep the clean sound and re-amp.

Wow... I love your playing man! Put It on a CD and I'll buy it too.

I love this. It also reminds me that I'm going to Joe Satriani in about 3 weeks. You guys are good.
The last part that you speed up could sound like a solo of John Petrucci.

Thanks! biggrin.gif Well if you think only learning a verse is ok - then the lesson will be great for any levels. I'd say most of the licks are pretty doable until the end of the song! (I hope you have a whammy bar! wink.gif )
