Just thought id say hi - signed up to this site yesterday.
Been playing for around 3 years, but looking to tighten up in some areas and brush up on theory. I like the theory stuff as well as learning new techniques. Just got a new amp I have a question about my tone. Im looking to base my sound to get something similar to the Neoclassical Solo video as a starting point. Iv been tweaking with the GE7 EQ and im nearly there - just cant quite find the biting point where the sound comes alive. The high notes sound great - its the lower mids and bass that seem a bit dark. I thought id add a little harmony effect in small doses one octave above. Not too much that would sound massively noticeable - just enough to brighten the lower notes. It has helped to some extent. Probably not the best idea doing it that way tho... Any idea where to go from there? How would you get that sound? My gear (if it helps to know): Jackson RX10D in cobalt blue Epiphone Explorer EX '84 reissue Blackstar HT20 valve combo Roland Boss ME-70 fx board Thanks for any help, its appreciated! |

Welcome to GMC!!!! Let me say you have come to the right place This is by far the most supportive, helpful, useful, guitar site I've ever seen. Jump in to the forums and live video chats and make some new friends! As for where to go next, I'd say not only this time, but every time, get started recording yourself using any gear you have available. Put your audio recordings on soundcloud.com and your video recordings on youtube.com, that way we can hear/see how you are playing and progressing! Hello mate! Welcome to the site! I think that you could get a similar sound with your equipment. I would start experimenting using your amp's distortions and adding a pedal like tube screamer emulated with your pedalboard and some delay. It's difficult to give you specific parameters but I would start from that.
Regarding what to practice, it would be great if you can record yourself playing different techniques to let us give you feedback and suggest lessons an exercises. -------------------- My lessons
