Hello everyone. Another new guy here who has decided to subscribe after seeing lot's of Kris' video lessons on UG and after some wandering about the forum as a guest. This seems like a really cool website with some good structure and it simply gets me excited to pick up the guitar just looking at it.
I'll tell you all a bit about myself now. My name is Terence and I live in the Netherlands. I'm in my sixth year of studying Mechanical Engineering at a university here and I'm currently working on my masters. My interest in music ranges from latin to metal, but I mostly listen to heavier music. (for those who are interested: www.last.fm/user/Mr_T83) Because I like so many different types of music, I have a hard time deciding what direction I want to take with my playing. A bit about my history of playing guitar: I started quite late. For my 21st birthday I got a spanish guitar from my parents. I played around with that for a couple of months and then it started to gather dust in a corner. Until about one and a half years later I picked it up again and started playing some songs with a friend of mine on a weekly basis. (or at least we tried) After a while I was the only one left playing guitar and since I liked mostly metal at the time, I decided it was time to get an electric guitar. I got myself a really cheap strat copy with an even worse amp, but for a little while I was satisfied with it and I began to really enjoy playing guitar. After about 3 months I got myself a Cube 30, which I still use today. Which was a real improvement and 2 months later I got myself an Ibanez RG1570, which was another really great improvement to what I had. From there on I started playing guitar alot more. However, for the two and a half years since I've found it really hard to build up a usefull amount of skills. I've mainly worked on covering songs by bands I like and before really finishing learning a song I would jump to something else I thought sounded cool. So now I've ended up being able to play bits and pieces of songs and certain lessons I've found on the net, but these things don't sum up to a usable skill of playing guitar. So what I'm really here for is to find some structure, to learn more and to put all I already know together and hopefully I'll be able to come up with some nice songs of my own. I make up lot's of songs in my head already, but I can't get myself to repeat it on guitar. Recently I've already started on studying some more theory and I've seen that there lot's of stuff on these forums when it comes to theory, so I'm going to be diving into that as well. Well this turned out to be quite a long introduction, thanks to you if you made it all the way through.
