GMC Forum _ Introduce Yourself ! _ Hello!

Posted by: Gerald Nov 7 2007, 01:37 AM

Hello all!

My name is Gerald and I've been lurking for a bit on this forum and decided to become a member. The information on here is great and well worth the 20 bucks.

About me, I'm 28 and I work as a PC Tech. I use to play the guitar regular when I was 14-17, but stopped playing for the better part of 10 years. Recently a work friend had a 58 Gibson recreation that I picked up and him and some other friends after hearing me pick a little bit encouraged me to play. So after a couple months of kicking around the idea I've decided to pick up the guitar again.

My roommate plays keyboards and we both like a lot of electronic music. Some of my favorite groups are Crystal Method and The Chemical Bros. My taste in music however is pretty broad, and I enjoy a lot of metal, especially older Metallica, MegaDeath, Ozzy w/ Randy Rhoads, (one of my fav. guitarists). I also enjoy a lot of blues, like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix.

Music wise I'd like to use this forum to help further my music theory so I can more effectively play music with my roommate. In addition I'd like to learn more about soloing with a metal feel as I always seems to default to a more blues sound. Lastly, learning some metal riffs and chord progressions other than the few that I know. smile.gif

I'm hoping that this website, community, forum will replace face to face lessons. I don't really have the time to commit to a set time for lessons due to other commitments and find something like GMC more my pace.

I hope to talk with fellow GMC members on the forum and learn how to shred! cool.gif

- Gerald

Thanks all for the love! Andrew - I've been reading your theory lessons for the past week or so and they are very helpful! I print them out and go over them with my roommate and use them while practicing.

As for guitars I use an Ibanez RG 470DX. I bought it about 10 years ago right before I stopped playing. I also have a squire strat which was my first electric guitar.

lol I have tons of books that don't explain theory as well as andrew does. Its rediculus how much money other musicians are spending just to learn this stuff.

welcome to the boards!

Andrew - why thank you! You're a gentleman and a scholar!

Seriously though the information I have recieved so far has been very helpful and inspirational. One of the reaons I stopped playing was because I hit a brick wall and didn't have the information available to learn new material for the guitar.

Thanks all again for the warm welcome! So far the video lessons I have viewed have really provided me some excellent pointers. I'm really digging on the alternate picking & tapping lesson by Kris. Where was GMC back when I was really playing?!? smile.gif
