Yep, 16th notes. Just sit there and downpick, it will come to you.
some songs that really helped me increase my speed are;
Slayer-Angel Of Death
Megadeth-Devils Island
Blind Guardian-Time What Is Time
Meshuggah-I (The first riff)
Good Luck!

I don't understand how it is possible to downpick 16th notes in 190 bpm. If you just put an upstroke in there, considering friction, time to pass the string with the pick etc, hitting 300 bpm (without it 380 bpm, 16th notes (not possible...) with alternate picking should be no problem. Are you sure it's 16th notes with only down picking?

That would be like:

Attached File  190_bpm_down_picking.mid ( 1.22K ) Number of downloads: 408

I can maybe down pick 16th notes at 80 bpm at most.

EDIT: just noticed you said 220 bpm. Then that makes it 440 bpm alternate picked?

That`s 150 with 16th(or 300 with 8th) and he`s sick!!! ohmy.gif

Yeah, I think we're talking 8th notes. That was merely what I was questioning. Because if anyone here can down pick at 220 bpm with 16th notes, that would be a world record. smile.gif

Don't apologize, man! I was just quite impressed - too impressed smile.gif As said...I can't even down pick that fast. 140 bpm with 8th notes, then I'm not getting any further.

Nice dude, my comfort down picking speed is 190bpm. Maybe I should give it a try so I can play master of puppets without AP

Yes.

How do you guys measure how fast your down picking is. When I listen to a metronome at 200 bpm I couldn't imagine hearing two notes in between each by ear. Do you guys record and slow it down or just estimate how fast you're picking.

You set the metronome to the desired speed. When you start playing and it feels right you reached the speed biggrin.gif

You just gotta start from a very slow tempo so the brain has time to adapt. Later on, when you go up the speed, brain already has memorized the movements, it just needs to speed it up more, and more, and more... smile.gif
