GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Sweep Picking (muiting Strings)

Posted by: SlyRy Jul 13 2011, 09:59 PM

Currently going through your sweep picking lessons, as well as David Walliman's. I have the coordination between my right and left hands down pretty well, and the speed increases everyday. My question is in regards to how to mute the strings.

From what I understand, you do not want to do a full palm mute with your right hand. Because that would muffle the strings too much. The idea is to lightly mute it with your palm, to prevent excess noise. You do this by placing your right palm on the back part of the bridge. Is that correct?

I seemed to have gotten the technique down pretty well with passive pickups. But when I picked up my ESP (w/EMG 81 bridge), I had to change my technique. Just wanted to verify how to properly mute them!

thanks!

Hello mate, Pavel is not instructor for some time now. If you want I could help with that particular part? You mentioned palm muting, and the way to do it. I think it's an appropriate way as long as every note sounds equally muted (and properly ofc).

If you have doubts, could you send me a video? I could see more clearly of what's going on.

Thank you Ivan. I'm sure I could record a video. How would I send it to you?

Thanks
