THE DARK LORD Audio Collab !
Hello boys and girls ! Who fancies dishing out some eerie guitar solos over my Tony Iommi backing track ??
The_Dark_Lord.mp3 ( 3.81MB )
: 420
The key is E Minor.
The opening chords go between E5 and E/dim5.
Over this section you could use: E Minor, E Minor Pentatonic, E Diminished.. the diminished 5th note (A#) could be added to the first 2 scales to correspond with the 2nd chord change.
When it gets heavier, the chords are E5, D5, E5, G5... C5, G, C5, G5.. the E Minor scale fits over all those chords perfectly.
The backing track is quite long so what I will do in the final mix is probably loop it twice and select pieces from your takes and join it all together in one big solo
I will need from you:
- An audio mix of your solo over the backing for reference purposes.
- Solo audio of your guitar track only
Deadline is Saturday 21st Sept
Cool, how many beers have you've been bribed with this time ?
I'm in, as always
Count me in for this one!
Busy collab month but you know...
I'm in like always
Here. You Donutmonster

I might give this a shot as well some time during this month.
Well I guess I'm in too if I get my USB Interface working again...
Really cool solo, now we just need Dio to put some vocals on it, but that might be difficult.
I'm not sure I can get anything done for saturday, sadly I just discovered this now, thanks to Weepee
(Edit: No, it is not his fault I did not discover it earlier)
Just a little reminder to anyone who wants to get their take on this - it ends tomorrow !
I won't actually be here from this evening until Sunday so I guess there's time for a few late stragglers !!
Sounds sexy. Expect a clip from moi.
After being threatened by my old partner in crime, Scando Bastardo, I had to record a take as well.
If you think you hear DAS RIFF...blame it on WeePee aka Scando Bastardo.

I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but: FUCK I like playing this kind of music

EDIT: just registered at soundcloud, lets see if it works!
Tried to be more ambitious, but panicked and ended-up with a bunch of random licks that don't flow together at all (and a dodgy last bar). Just showcases my inexperience!
Cheers for the backing, was cool.

Dark Dude - some sexy licks in there towards the end - would love to see them played on a video to see what's going on with the sweeps That's quite a savage tone on the ears tho, a bit trebly !?! Love the Satch legato licks too !
Gitarrero - Have I heard that opening riff somewhere before ? It sounds familiar... There's some good stuff in here, Hef.. it does have a tendency to meander though so don't forget to find those nice chord tones to give your melodies more KRAFT !
WeePee - Very nice, Scando B*stardo ! It's good that you highlighted the flat 5th too. The bluesy approach really works well, seeing as it's an Iommi inspried backing !
Ulrik - I like the double tracked solo.. it adds thickness to the tone and is just a good effect overall. Like Gitarrero, some lines can be meandering so finding the chord tones will help you.. but those wild bends and bleeding notes are a great touch !
I think it's fair to say that most of us improvise our takes on the spot for most of the collabs so we can be forgiven for not picking totally amazing melodies all the time. When you sit down and compose something, it's easier to create melodies and follow chord tones etc.. so if you ad-libbed your takes, don't take my criticisms to heart too much. But it's well worth bearing in mind for compositional purposes !
Thanks for being part of this collab !!
Hah, you put that together nice and quickly!
The sweep is a standard 5 string minor sweep with the high E 24th and 22nd tapped (I may have also pulled off onto the open string after 24/22-19-15). Part near the end is a 3 nps pentatonic tapped lick with an extra note slapped on, over the E and B, as I'm sure you know, hehe.
Had to restrain myself to fill the thing with technical difficulties lead licks - which is where the Satch-style stuff comes from here.
On tone, I usually pick something that's acceptable and don't tweak it. Have very little experience in shaping tone (as when I've tried in the past, I couldn't get far), but will take note for the future, thanks!
zanks Ben!
Yeah, I also felt I was meanering a bit, maybe the backing track was too long or my imagination too weak. Nah, let's blame it on das backing track!
And no, you zis was not das riff you were looking for. Move along!
Yeah well, nerds will love the quote.
And Ben actually owes us like 22 or even 23 collabs for all das Bier some angels sent him.
And these ducks demand a video collab. You don't wanna make them mad, do you?
The cat and ducks were not necessary.. I was already planning the next collab.
But... they did help
Haha, you guys.
Can't wait for the next one : D
WELL DONE GUYS!!! They have a great point Benster!! It's time for a full on VIDEO COLLAB ALA BEN!!!!!
Todd
