Check out this clip. All I"m changing is the amount of pressure I"m putting on the bridge for the palm mute. My picking intensity stays the same. I play each lick twice, once with a light mute, then with a heavy mute. it makes a drastic difference.
I sometimes have people download my 11 rack patches and send me recordings that don't sound like the patch. After some digging, I found out it was mostly just a lack of right hand pressure making things go wrong for folks. Give this a listen and see if you can tell the difference in mute  It really is the secret to Heavy tone.
