Trying to learn this to add to our bands live set but the insane intro is just evading me, I know its Hendrix at his searing best but I can play a lot of his stuff but this is just driving me mad!
I know the scales, chords changes etc I just need some advice on the rhythym timing and his muting, if anyone can chip in with some advice to get me a little closer to it I would be very grateful!

I swear theres three guitars playing here! laugh.gif

In my opinion he just plays a 16-note up-down stroke over the 4 high strings (and sometimes 5 or 6, he's not so picker-nickety...) What he does is to emphasize this rhytm: . 1 1 1111 1 1 1111 . with the point as bars, eg. two eight notes and 4 16-notes that repeats - but still the hand moves and he does it rather by muting the strings with the left hand (sorry, his right hand of course...)... hope this helps...... It's really some kinda funk-playing here.

EDIT: He plays in A, even though it tunes Ab, and he probably uses the thumb for the low notes. Try a software like Amazing Slow Downer and listen to it at half speed, then You will figure it out for sure! (Amazing Slow Downer is free for trying out, but it plays just the first 30 seconds, but that will do in this case...) smile.gif

He plays the bass note with his thumb, and the rest up there, it's pretty hard with short fingers, but it's possible with practice. I learned to play this techniques by listening to "Here he comes" from South saturn Delta, now THAT is an awesome song (sounds similar to this).

Adrian has some great lessons for these groovy rhythm patterns. Maybe trying some of them will help you get the idea.

Check out these series of lessons if you haven't already! Should help a lot with timing and strumming that can be used in this song too! smile.gif
