I'm not sure if the BBC iplayer works in other countries, as many US sites that offer catch up do not. Hope we haven't followed in that example...

But anyway, for anyone interested in checking out the documentary, click here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b008hs1m

Personally I try to ignore the whole background story, as fascinating as it is. I love the Barrett, Waters and Gilmour periods of Pink Floyd as much as each other.

Roger's part in the band was epic during the post Barrett era, and without him, I'm sure it would have been a very different floyd. But who's to say for the better or worse... Certainly Dark Side wouldn't be around today if it hadn't been for Waters contribution, just as it wouldn't have come to existance without the aid of Gilmour, Wright or Mason.

I don't think we can pass judgment on people without experiencing what they've been through, and this band have a ton of history, not all of it fond. The wall's concept and lyrical communication is just a fine example of Rogers troubled youth, and you have to remember that they began their musical career right at the start of their adult life.

I myself can not comprehend what effect fame, fortune, pressure, expectations, competition and high stress would have on me and how I would go about treating people due to these changes. I'd hope that it wouldn't change me, but history tells another story in some instances.

I do however side on the Gilmour/Wright/Mason side of the battle however wink.gif

I saw it as a kind of progression ...

Floyd without Waters sounds a lot more like the earlier era - Meddle, Ummagumma etc, which shows to me that he just had more influence on the sound over time, with a kind of ideal balance, or true chemistry being found in the DSOTM/WYWH era, then still good but increasingly Waters was The Wall. I think if Floyd had not split their music would just have been all Waters - The Pros and Cons of Hitchinking with Gilmour/Wright/Mason as little more than session musicians, which would have been bad. Without Waters, I think that Floyd also lost a lot of their edge, but I see it as more of a team effort, albeit without the chemistry of the early to mid 70s era Floyd. Best case would be Gilmour and Waters working together again as somewhat equal partners!

Heh, right at the end of that documentary Roger, when asked about possibly getting back together he says "I don't think it will happen, but... Well you can ask Dave when you speak to him." promptly followed with David smiling "Ain't going to happen".

I only love the first Pink Floyd albums. If I had to choose only one Pink Floyd album it would be the first. They have other great albums and songs but nothing that compares with Piper at the gates of dawn
