Hey Bondy,
Something to kick around for maybe a future original.
Cool Skenny maybe we could do something with that later
P.S i think we should just leave it as just you and me for the band not had any reply's whatsoever(VERY DISAPPOINTING)
Thanks Chris
your welcome guys, anytime, just ask
Skenny this is my first take of vocal and rhythm bit of a sore throat and this maybe pushes my vocal range to far but sounds ok I think?
Cool man. I'll have a listen shortly, At work and the phone stops me everytime I start to play it.
Sounds good man!
I'm trying to lay down a rhythm take but my kids are just not cooperating atm. I'll try to get something recorded soon.
Hey Craig, Sorry for the delay man. Just having a hard time finding a good tone. The toneport has some good models for ac/dc but just not sounding good with my guitar. I took it to the shop for a Pro set-up and hope to have it back tomorow. I'm going to try and get something down tonight with my RX10 as it seems to sound a little better Been playing my DK2M straight out of the box and I think it really needed a set-up.
Steve
Ok man, wanted to give you something to hear to see if i'm even close to the "Young" sound.
I've worked it out up to about the 2 min point and need to fix some mistakes but mainly wanted you to hear my tone at this point. Full rhythm upload soon!
Steve
Hi Steve
Sorry for jumping in on your thread, just realised sumink ... you tune down right?? this backing I gave you is in standard tuning and I think Bondy is playing in standard too, thats why the bass sounds way out with your guitar.
good tone for the guitar
yep iam playing standard tunning will download and have a listen
Here are my toneport settings
Amp 1990 Brit j-800 Drive 5 Bass 5 Middle 10 Treble 5 Presence 4 Vol 5
Cab 2x12 1967 class A-30
Reverb Standard spring Dwell 25% Tone 50% Mix 10%
Hope this works for you Skenny
Thanks Bondy. I'll record a take with your settings in a lttle while so you guys can hear. I imagine its getting kinda late over in the UK. Do you spring forward with daylight savings time tonight as well? I think you are 6 hrs ahead of my time.
Hey man here's a take with your settings. Did'nt know what the base was set on so I left it at 5.
Still sounds muddy to me. I've worked through about 2 min of the song, still with issues but I'll get it.
Never thought it would give me this much trouble And it's an ez one. You've prolly got the solo down already
But thanks man, I've said it befor, this is forcing me to learn.
Cool will download and have a listen have not quite got the solo yet but its gettin there
Hey guys, been playing around in reaper. Recorded this little piece to see if you guys think the sound quality is any better.
Clean track: EQ,lowpass filter and a little chorus.
lead track: just a little reverb tweaking
theres a third track in here as well. few chords recorded real low with no fx.
Also on the master:4b eq adjustment.
mind the playing just the sound
Chris, jump in here and give me your comments as well.
quality doesnt sound too bad mate,
What is the input volume reading on the meter when your recording your guitars though?
In gearbox the record send meters are fluctuating between -24 and -25 (green)
In reaper:
Master: -6-
Clean: -18-
lead : is just below -6-
track 3: -42-
all are just below the red line. I'm assuming that is the point where clipping occurs?
changed settings to where all meters are in yellow and then rendered again. See if this sounds any better. I've really got to get me some monitors. It's hard to tell with these cpu speakers and if I run through my amp then it's settings come into play.
sounds ok to me mate,
either that or a decent set of headphones will help a lot, really hear properly what your recording/playback
Thanks man. I think I'm going to get me a pair of Alesis M1 actives.
Heres the solo guys. If you want anything changed or the rhythm guitar or anything just ask.
Damm matt that was fast will put it with the rest of the track and see how it sounds will get back to ya if i need any changes
Ahh I'am such a noob gonna need the solo without backing to add it to the rest of the recording
please Matt
No problem heres the solo with out backing.
Has everything been recorded for Highway to Hell now?
Not yet man. Is that the complete solo? It seemed to be a little longer the last time I heard it. but then again, that's been a while
It's whats on the gp tab. If you tell me what i'm playing wrong i'll record it again.
At work at the moment man sorry. I'll have a listen when I get home this afternoon. You may be spot on.
It fits in alright on the track only problem is it coming over dead quite and when i turn it up all the way it starts clipping gonna have to play around with reaper will get back to ya.Plus skenny whlie I'am thinking about it the backing track smells did for us is different from the original its not quite as long so where gonna have to improve here i think
Eek sorry guys, want to see if I can get a longer backing for you? sorry didnt realise it was shorter
What do you think guys? Iprovise with this backing or get Smells to get the complete track?
either way is fine with me.
Just improvise with it we will just shorten the last solo get this in the can and start a new one thats my pennys worth
I'm good with that plan
I don't know the song highway to hell to well. What bit should I record?
Do whatever bits you feel comfortable with we will jointly choose the next song
Yea Matt, work on what parts feel good to you. I'm working on it right now and have been for a while. Still not clicking for me yet!
What's up guys? Heres another attempt with a small part of the solo. Changed and ended it a little so we could improvise the shorter track. Still some mistakes
Steve
sounding a lot better Skenny keep up the practice on that solo and you all but have it nailed
I'm digging at it man! Soon, I hope to have it nailed. Kids are learning too!
Heres the riffs of Highway to hell up to the solo. There's a couple mistakes, and im not happy with the chorus (i think its a bit messy), but I thought I'd post to see what you think I should improve.
Hi Matt, Ddi,nt realize you had posted this take. I'll have a listen when I get home from work this evening and get back to you.
are we gonna continue with highway to hell?
Not sure whats happening at the moment think we should all get together and pick a new song as a band and take it from there what do you think Skenny
I'm fine with that guys. Let's pick something fairly easy to get started like we did with H2H. Is Matt still in?
do you want to meet in the chat tonight?
I dont think he is not heard from him i have had major recording issues think iam sorted no though any ideas on songs
i can go in for a bit now if ya want
You give love a bad name backing

k lets figure out whos doing what
worked on it briefly last night and have got the intro and 1st verse almost down. I'll try to upload something this evening when I get home from work
Here's the intro, still needs some tweeking but figured we need to kick this one off. Bout got the verse tight. i'll upload all together when I feel good about it.
Not bad skenny nearly there
This my first take guys plenty of mistakes lol just glad to get my recording issues sorted

Ok cool matt
nice overdrive with some delay and reverb iam using with a hi-gain amp and 4x12 cab on my korg
Hey guys , heres the intro, verse, chorus, 2nd verse and 2nd chorus.
I know it's not perfect so any suggestions about sound, playing etc are all welcome
Sounds fine to me just gotta work on it a bit and you will nail it thats exactly what i have to do aswell
keep practicing Matt
Not bad Matt. I would recommend also a little more vibrato as well. Great take man. Do you guys feel like the verse needs a little palm mute? I know the tab does'nt have it but just sound's like Richie is playing with a bit.
the riff is played with palm mute and a couple of ph but you can get away with it if you want
That's what I thought. Trying to work it out
Thanks guys for the comments. I'll listen to the actual song and not the gp tab and i'll upload again tonight.
And perhaps as Nick says
I think we should assign parts. That way we can focus on a particular part and get this thing bagged fairly quickly.
which tabs are we using?
Nick, do you have gp? We are using Version 2 GP tab on UG
ok thanks ill post something later when i got it down
Thanks for the tab ive been using the version1 and its quite different.
Here's where I'm at so far.Got to work on a few more sections and get these tightened up. I think we should really assign parts..
I comfortable with any part will defo do the solo if you want
Even though most parts of the song are easy it would be good to assign parts cos quite soon we will all probably be able to play the whole song, but if we assign parts we can all concentrate on individual bits and do them really well, finish this song quickly so we can do more, and its more of a band thing if we all add to the whole thing instead of us all posting the whole thing individually then mixing it as a band.
Still i am fine with whatever i think this would be good though.
You kind of lost me there do you want to do individual parts or not i think it would be faster like you said then we can move on???
Craig, you want the solo at the end and maybe the intro? Then we could split it up into verse and chorus. what are your thoughts guys?
Well if you want i could do the solo and outtro iam good with that
sure bondy can i do the intro soloy part
That'll work man. Matt, you got a mic?
off suject but when you guys get a chance, have a listen to an original idea I had for an intro. It could go many different ways.
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?act=attach&type=blogentry&id=7452
Play around with it if you like.
So who wants which verse and chorus? I've got the Intro and the chorus just about nailed so I could take those parts if you want.
Ok i'll take a verse and a chorus, iv just about got those and no iv not got a mic
Is that an idea for an original song? I like it
We could certainly use it down the road if you guys like.
i like it skennington
well it looks like all the parts are taken so i guess i wont be in on this one
Sounds sweet to me
Skenny forgot to say if you want the intro part to sound more like Richie Sambora use and octava only for the first solo part up until the first riff.
Thanks man, I'll try that. These actives are tuff to tame!
Bondy, you talking about a Mic? In gearbox, I can only switch from axis, dynamic, or condersor. Been using the condensor.
Can I add it in the effects chain in reaper?
No Skenny he uses a Boss octave pedal to get that thick sound on the opening solo and the main solo which give it extra high octave overtones you should be able to get a octave pedal setting in gearbox look under effects.
10-4. I'll try fooling around with the sub-octave box. Don't know if i'm going to get that thick tone out of these EMG's but i'll try.
Guys just tried something out for the solo not perfect yet but getting there let me know what you think of the sound i thought something a bit different for the ending would be cool fast foward to around 2.16mins

Nice I like the sound it's very bassy, the guitar's a bit quiet though.
thats np can turn it up abit how i will check it the level was fine when recording
yep it is a bit quite will mess around with the levels a bit
Liked it Bondy. Listening through studio monitors it kinda reminded me of a voice box, similar to the intro of living on a prayer.Might need to brighten it up just a bit. Might sound cool adding a little wah to it.
well spotted Skenny it is a talkbox setting on my korg will also try some wah
hey guys, see if this sounds a little fatter. Still got to get the bends a little crisper...
Sounding much better Skenny
Sounds good, i would put a bit more mids in it but thats just my opinion, if you like the sound keep it.
Recorded this take with the 85. It has a little warmer tone. I'll try and add a little more mid. I actually took some out but the DAW hear's a little different than we do.
Nick, where you at bro? We want you in on this one.
Here's the 2nd verse and chorus. I learnt the version 1 tab first by mistake and there's some bits in it i think sound better than the version2 tab, so mainly the bit leading up to the chorus is a bit different to the ver2 tab so if you want me to change it just say.
Thats sound's freeking awesome matt good job
Yes Indeed man! I like that a bit better. One thing you might want to do is back off the prescence just a bit. Might eliminate some of the string slide. If not, works for me. We need to get Nick to work off of that tab as well so it will sound the same.
Thanks for the comments guys, and Nick doesn't have to work off the other tab because this our cover of the song so we don't need to make it exactly like the original.
And skenny, is there any way i can put the presence down on reaper so i don't have to record again?
I have just put together what we have so far(please bear with me iam new to recording+mixing) to show how we are progressing i need the intro with no backing Skenny and we have the whole song
Really, just the intro without backing and were finsished? Great
And a vocal of course which i will give a crack tomorrow we still made need to brush it up some more but were pretty much there. And also as verse 2 is the same as verse 1 I just cut and pasted the first one in were verse 2 is
Nice
Here it is without the intro i think it sounds pretty good for our first effort
yougivelovecomp1.mp3 ( 3.42MB )

That does sound pretty good. Can't wait to hear it with vocals. The second verse is out of time btw.
Ok will play around some more never done mixing before so its a learning curve bear with me.
Here you go guys. Think it sounds pretty dang close!
Man i cant get this track to blend right its like a quarter beat out gonna take a break for a bit its screwing with me here
Here's my attempt at a mix. Bondy, if you want, put the solo up and i'll mix it in. I think it sounds great so far guys.
Ok i messed around with ReaFir and this what ive come up with. It has got rid of quite a bit of sliding noise but it's changed the sound quite drastically and im not sure whether its better or worse so you can choose.
Here's a re-mix with Matt's new upload. Sounds good.
Hey guys, been working a bit on the solo all day as well just for my own pleasure. Check it out and tell me what you think.
Mixed the solo in will try and add vocals tomoz great work guys
Great work on the solo skenny(smells) its better than mine i thing i should quit
OK ya got me ya bunch of so ans sos its a fair cop
only wish I could play that well.
theres no point for me to post my chorus and verse since u already used matts twice and mixed it right?
No man post away the final mix has not been done yet we were just tweeking to see how it sounds
Ok guys heres the first mix of the entire song apart from the vocal which i have tried to do with little success due to mic level problems and now my throat is hurting so if anyone else wants to give it a bash that would be cool i have also redone the solo due to smells completely destroying me yesterday with his allbut perfect rendition smug git LOL hope you like it i think it sounds much better
yougivelovecomplete1.mp3 ( 3.48MB )

That's great. Good mixing and solo Bondy
Sounds good man! I would really like a stab at the vocals, working on getting a mic. I think we need a mix of vocals on this one for sure.
Thanks for the great comments guys skenny if you wanna do the vocals go right ahead i cant get my levels right sounds great while singing it the when i playback its much quieter to be honest iam plugging my mic through my korg i have to look at getting a lexicon or something like that
Had a go at the vocals last night guys and I must say, I don't know if my range will support a quality vocal on this one. Jon's voice is great and it's going to be hard for me to put something down that sounds good. I'll have another go tonight and see what happens.
Wht do you guys think about doing some ZZ for the next one? La Grange looks pretty easy. Heres a cool backing I found for it.
I'm not too kean on la grange but i don't not like it. I'd really like to make a song ourselves. Maybe we should meet in the chat to discuss our next song some time.
Iam easy whatever you guys want MSN would be better
though
MSN ID:[email protected]
I'm open to whatever guys. Just a suggestion. Original would be cool!
Ok, ive added you on msn bondy (im matt723). Skenny and Nick, are you cool with a chat on msn sometime to decide our next song?
Ok Guys here the first full track inc Vocal dont Laugh tough song to sing timings out a bit at the end though
LOL

Shall i put it on the completed songs?
Thumbs up guys, I just heard your mix with vocals, it's cool! Nice job Bondy (Craig is it?)!!
Very nice, I had to do vocals for men in blues with another brick in the wall. I can say it's prety hard, and you nailed it Craig!
Thanks Kaznie means a lot that people liked it
