What do you think of this tuning?

From low to high

E A D G C F

I think it's more logical , never tried it tho.

It is more logical if you think of intervals,
just be aware of 6 strings chords, bare ones,
ain't gonna work. smile.gif

Didn't think of that.

I was thinking it's easier interval and scale wise only.

Yeah, there are some cudos with that kind of tuning,
as you know, 6 string basses have C as first string. smile.gif

I didn't know that. Well in a bass or in a guitar that zour going to use it only for lead purposes would work better.

Thanks for the explanations Muris, there is always something new to learn.

The bass is always tunned in 4ths so the shape scales are always symmetrical. And if you check the Stanley Jordan clinic he tunes his guitar in that way too (if my memory doesn't betray me).

This is from Stanley Jordans Wikipedia entry

"Another feature of Jordan's playing is the tuning he uses: from bass to treble EADGCF (all in fourths as on the Chapman Stick, compared with the standard EADGBE), so the patterns for chords are the same wherever they are played on the fretboard."

Exact tunnings are great for symmetrical type lines and approach.
I think this would definitely come in hand when doing arpeggio shapes and diminished scale!

That's the tuning I use. I personally feel it's easier for me to play certain shapes for scales and arpeggios. I tried going back to standard tuning a few months ago but I switched back. Feels way more natural. But as Muris said, 6 string chords get messed up.

I actually thought about doing that too. It would make fretboard math easier =P. But I'm to lazy to relearn all the licks and scale shapes I know. dry.gif
