DBZ Guitars Introduces New Metal-Oriented "The Dark Side of Dean" Guitar Line
August 05, 2009

DBZ Guitars is pleased to announce a new series of distinctive metal guitars, "The Dark Side of Dean." This line is a new offering of uniquely carved masterpieces straight from the darkest depths of legendary guitar builder Dean B. Zelinsky's mind. "The Dark Side series is designed for the sophisticated player, who is searching for the ultimate 'over the top' metal instrument," says the CEO and DBZ Guitars founder.

Zelinsky is no stranger to metal. His guitar creations are played, and have been played, by metal & rock royalty on stages across the world for decades. Armed with 30 years of knowledge and experience, DBZ has created a guitar line like no other specifically for his fans and fans of the genre. "Great tone, feel, and incredible playability have always been the bottom line. But now, by embracing advances in woodworking technology, we can create anything we can imagine. 'The Dark Side' line is no exception. We've pushed the boundaries to create sculpted masterpieces with more tone, feel, and magic than anything I've ever created," he says.

The "Dark Side of Dean" consists of three unique and darkly ornate models:

DBZ Bird of Prey The Bird of Prey is a carved masterpiece that unites form with function. It's available in a variety of custom colors and graphics with a highly contoured body. Bird of Prey comes standard with EMG active humbuckers providing all the intensity and depth needed to compliment it's intense design. The Bird of Prey's easy access 24-fret neck gives players the ability to tear up the fretboard in style while lending their music a visual punch to the gut.

DBZ Venom The Venom is a deeply visceral V-style guitar. Like the Bird of Prey, Zelinsky uses modern technology not only as a method for precision and efficiency but as a means to realize the menacing sculpture that lies beneath the tone wood. The Venom comes loaded with EMG pickups, original Floyd Rose tremolo, and show-stopping graphic options.

DBZ Halcyon The Halcyon is a radical re-imagining of a classic style. It is a sleek, double cutaway guitar that balances classic functionality with modern metal sensibilities. Like the Bird of Prey and The Venom, the Halcyon is loaded to the hilt with EMG pickups, original Floyd Rose Tremolo, easy 24-fret access, and set-neck construction. It's available in high impact colors and radical off-the-hook graphics, including the Vertigo and the Death Dealer.

Great guitar! Maybe a little TOO Metal for me (and hell, I am a Metalhead!)

Off Topic:

Yeah it's Dean himself! He left his own company to start from scratch with DBZ. Must be hard not to be allowed to build the guitars you originally designed (the ML, Cadillac, the Soltero...)

I can understand why he left though! Dean guitars are building overpriced American Made guitars and Korean versions that aren't worth the money. Also they throw signature guitars out to just about anybody willing to play a Dean while making money of the deceased Dimebag Darrel (more than 20 Dimebag signatures?!?)

I would really like to have a Dean but only a USA made from their golden years...

That guitar just screams metal!

I've never been a fan off odd shapes like that though, they are cool to look at, but i mostly dislike them because i dont find them comfortable to sit and play with smile.gif

Hi,
thnx for all the replies and most of them were good observations "That case is Huge" lol and it is f***ing enormous! but seriously could do with some advice here.
I want to put up a reveiw and I expected to just plug this thing in and give you a fair idea of this guitar I`ve been playing a few years and was`nt expecting any probs but here they are any tips would be welcome.
This guitar is great! but I have not played a guitar with a tremolo before and this one is so sensitive. Problem is no matter what guitar I play I always end up resting my hand near the bridge I find it good for shreds and handy for muting but that does`nt work on this because it really is that sensitive. I find it awkward "back to beginner" to play with my hand just floating in the air. any tips?
apart from that the sound is great the neck is about as fast as it could get and it looks superb. Its light and you really can divebomb to hell and not go out of tune but its going to be awhile before I put up a youtube vid.
The reveiws I have read are totally wrong about some things. Quite a few say that you have to be careful not to stab someone because its too long but thats not right I think they`re just looking for something funny to say. I will put up a vid in a couple of weeks but even then I will play something safe. Years of 335 type guitars Idid`nt realise how different this would be.
My son says he will do a vid for me he`s brave lol
I think some of the instructors here would love this guitar easily gibson quality.
so any tips please
Not much of a reveiw but I`m not blaming my tools this guitar is a beaut and if you get evicted you can live in the case!

I recently experienced the exact same thing actually when i got my new Schecter.
95% of all playing i have ever done has been on a guitar with a fixed bridge.

But a strange thing happened.. after a few days or so my hand had automatically repositioned itself to a spot where muting is great but where the tremolo dont react. I didnt focus much on it, i just had it in the back of my mind that my hand always need to rest on a different spot, and eventually it did.

So my advice is to just play alot and you will get used to it and find the right spot smile.gif
