Can you count loud the beat (for instance 1 - 2 - 3 - 4) when playing (intricate) guitar parts?

I've been told it's a good exercise to develop rhythm, which makes sense. What do you think?

Yeh, any way of counting that helps you with rhythm placement is good imo. Just don't do it when you play a gig.

Actually, sometimes Bruce Dickinson (singer of iron maiden) does it. He shouts "one two three four"!

Yeah that is a common singers trick to count in cool parts of the song and make it more interesting to audience and to anticipate a more drastic change in rhythm!

Counting out loud or tapping your foot is a good practice!

nope, I can't do it. playing triplets and counting 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 -> no way

Could be they were playing in 3/4

That said, we used to count into everything 1, 2, 3, 4 in my band. We thought it became a bit messy to count into 9/8, 15/16 or something weird.
