GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Heavy Metal Rhythm Lesson (kai's Second Lesson)

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Aug 8 2007, 10:31 AM

Hey there,

All though this is just Kai' s second lesson it's getting obvious we have quite a riff master with us. This lesson contains heaps of cool rhythm stuff. This lesson - in combination with Gabriel's Megaeth lesson from yesterday - should make of for a real Heavy Metal Mecca!

Enjoy! biggrin.gif

Sweet lesson. Guitar Pro file is broken though.

Posted by: Pavel Aug 8 2007, 12:31 PM

Nice riffing! His GPs are not broken - it's just he uses some kind of update and his version is not 5.0 so he can open all of the GP files but we can't! sad.gif We have to make him get a clean 5.0 version!

Keep riffing Kai! smile.gif

Posted by: Hungus Aug 8 2007, 12:51 PM

Ah I see.... Well could you please update to version 5.2 then Kai it would be much appreciated smile.gif

still doesnt explain why I get warnings in french which dont really make sense when translated with google... especially considering I am not french, I dont have a french version and everything else is in english sad.gif

Posted by: Pavel Aug 8 2007, 12:56 PM

When there is a bug in the software you can get error messages in whatever language! This was not a perfectly tested piece of software because i encounter errors when adding bending or bend/release and click play - i also get warnings in French!

If he updates to 5.2 we still won't be able to open these files! He needs a clean 5.0 version!

Cheers for the feedback Pavel...

I'm not really sure what you are meaning by a clean version though... but that doesnt matter to me really as my version seems fine smile.gif

When they create a software it has a basic version. For example we now have GP5 - version 5. When they find some bugs they create an update or patch for it and create x.1, x.2, etc. You have 5.2 so you don't have the basic 5.0 version. So does Kai - he has installed some updates. I have a "clean" 5.0 version with no updates and i don't see a reason for updating it because in 99% of cases in software development - when an update fixes one bug he creates 10 new bugs. In this case - they created an update for certain thing but they forgot to maintain the file support even if they added new features which are not supported in older versions. I think most of GMCers have 5.0 version because nobody ever reported my GP file broken.

I was in contact with Kai some time before he did his first lesson and we were exchanging GP files. he could open all of my files but i was receiving an open error. So - if we want to make everybody able to use GP's we all must have same version of the program.

Your version is fine to you and my version is fine to me - but together they don't work! smile.gif

Oh right I get what you mean now... I didnt realise what you meant by clean because the version I got was straight off the GP website about a week ago. Thing is though I can actually run your GP files and everyone elses execpt for Kai's. Its not too much of a problem though as I have ways around it but its just inconvienent really.

Yes, its actually extremely bad software development practice to break file compatibility between minor versions, so bad marks for GP5 in this area!

Microsoft did the same with newer office versions! We had a lot of problems with in at university because at home you have and older/newer version and when you bring your work to teacher he says he can't see it! Same happened to JDeveloper and C++ Software!

uh oh.. i do have the updates ohmy.gif but luckily for me i try and learn these lessions without gp.. i actually never even really thought of using it.

Posted by: Pavel Aug 8 2007, 03:04 PM

You CAN have and update! But instructors shouldn't! Because NEWER versions can open older files - but older versions can not open newer files!! And that's the case with Kai's files!

Wow this is so cool smile.gif

You guys rock! thnx for your support and the kind words. And thnx again Pavel, my man, for helping me out while answering to Hungus problem there! Indeed that is a bit confusing with GP-5. All of us users here should get in contact with the company that makes this software...how about that tongue.gif Well...a GMC special update would be cool:D:D:D

I´m glad you guys dig my lessons so much, I was wondering how you would like the second one. But I thought at least one of the riffs in that one would get any metalhead to nod his head:P

I hope anyone can take something form those riffs. The kick a.., and on the same hand are quite essential to the metalriffing I find... well smile.gif

Greetz,
Kai

The New Lesson Is Awesome!!

And Also...

HAIL MANOWAR!!

Posted by: Hungus Aug 8 2007, 03:16 PM

If that is the case then it is an entirely different problem I am having.... ohh well

Posted by: Pavel Aug 8 2007, 03:16 PM

Kai you're welcome my friend!! I think soon the whole world will be running under "GMC STANDARD 101.1" laugh.gif laugh.gif

"What? Your software is not GMC compatible?? Get lost!! We're not selling it unless you make it work at GMC!"

hahahaha

Btw. Kai next rhythm lesson is up to me! Power metal riffing enters the scene again! smile.gif I watched your lesson and immediately got the idea for a riffing lesson, it's already tabbed and all - i just have to wait till weekend for the works on the road to stop - too much noise! biggrin.gif

Awesome lesson Kai, i love all your lessons you've made so far. It gives me tons of ideas to create my own riffs.
