If you had a teacher that helped you with your first steps, what's the most important thing that you learned from him, the thing that you remember most even today, and always followed?

Considering I quit playing for 10 years that would push that to being over 15 years ago.
My first teacher I remember walking into his room and he had a blue RR Jackson and just wailed out some old randy rhodes solos and black sabbath. He always talked about picking, that it takes years to have a relaxed state of playing and thats what half of the battle to playing was. I forget that at times and I see it posted here, practice, practice, practice. Something may not play right slow it down and practice and slightly push and in time you will overcome it. My first teacher moved away and my second one was kind of into country music and teaching theory. We didn't make it far and shortly after I tried to learn on my own and that was hard being around 13 with no internet to even help read and learn. With being so young I gave up and hung out with friends and such. But here I am years later, better guitar/gear, and gmc to help me strive to get better! -------------------- Guitars:
