Beginner's Corner 1: Open Chords, Lesson By Bear Rose |
|
Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi Carmine! Great to see your take here and to see you playing complete chord tunes as they are originally. You did it! Congrats!
As I said previously, you did a very good job with this lesson and now it's time to polish some details just to get the best sound and feeling of your rhythm playing. I think that your timing could be tighter and your playing groovier on this take. When I said tighter, it means that you should focus on playing the accentuated down strokes at the correct moment. The best way to help yourself is using your foot (as you are doing) but also your head following the backing's rhythm. You have to feel it. Playing along with the original lesson will also help you at first to play the chords tighter. Groove is the sense of propulsive rhythmic "feel" or sense of "swing" and the trick is to use all our body to achieve it, starting from our right hand that should keep on "grooving" even when you are not playing the strings. You seem to intend to do it, but your hand is still a bit shy when you don't reach the strings. Besides this, the take is sounding good so keep on practicing and focus on timing & groove. Cheers! -------------------- My lessons
