I read this somewhere, about the song Sweet Home Alabama!

At the end guitar line you can hear ronnie (the singer) say: my doughnuts Goddammn! (I'm sorry, but that's what he said) Because before they started recording, he bought him doughnuts but he was trapped inside the singing booth laying on the vocals when the band ate his doughnuts!

Fact #2
The solo is played in the wrong key! They play it in G! While the song's in D. The guitarist said he wouldn't change it because he recieved all notes of the solo in his dream:P

Thats realy cool, will have to have a listen to it!
Its one of the all time classic tunes, will never go out of style and still sounds fresh to me when I hear it again

I saw Zakk Wylde do a realy good Heavy version at Donnington many years ago, would love my band to do a heavy version but our drummer cant stand the song!I might sneak it into the set to wind him up tongue.gif

this is a great post. I am going to listen to it now, interesting on both accounts.

edit: You are correct, he does that on the solo, it gives it an effect, like dropping down a "step" to the vocals when the solo ends.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huLklsj_5HI

and yes, now we know what he said at the end of his singing, obviously he thought they would just cut it out, but they left it in for kicks I guess.

There is another interpratation here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Home_Alabama_(song)
"Following the two "woo's" (Leon's the first, Ed's the second) at the start of the piano solo, Van Zant can be heard ad-libbing "My, Montgomery's got the answer." The duplicate "my" was produced by Kooper turning off one of the two vocal takes."

But to me it sounds like doughnuts.

I read that, I don't see where wikipedia references what he says at the end of the song.

Sure sounds like doughnuts to me.

right after he finishes singing, it is the last thing he says.

edit: Ok, I see what you are saying BW, after the two Woo's. That is the spot they are talking about, the disputed statement.

edit2: I found a supporting reference to the doughnut interpretation.....

According to Q magazine Ronnie Van Zant treated himself to a box of doughnuts before the session. While he was recording his vocal in the booth, the band began to eat them in the control room. He couldn't do anything because he was trapped singing the song. At the end you can hear him saying, very angrily, "My doughnuts! Goddamn!"

-1 for wikipedia then smile.gif
I try to hear it as "My, Montgomery's got the answer (This would make some sense in the context of the lyrics I guess)." but all I hear is "My doughnuts!". They aren't even similar.

That happens all the time. You are drunk and start playing over the wrong box! tongue.gif

But I think it only means it gives a lydian sound instead of dorian wink.gif
