yea man, same here, and idk how the other band members would take it..so weird.

well, for one thing, there were two brothers named Van Halen in the band. 2nd, all the rest of them, including D Roth, knew that without Eddie, nobody was going to hear of any of the rest of them. I am not crazy about the songs, never was, not most of them. But Eddie was very good, especially for his time, one of the best in the world at that time.

edit: Roth said that when he first met E Van Halen, the words that went though his mind were "there is my meal ticket". The rest should be satisfied that they got equal shares of the profits, they were expendable.

I read something recently about Eddie Van Halen's son who is said to be an amazing guitarist and is only 15 years old, maybe we'll hear from him someday

Well said. Big VH fan myself but Eddie was what gave them the kick in the pants to get started. Rumor is now that once the reunion tour kicks off this fall Michael Anthony will be the bass man again. I thought Wolfgang on bass was a bad idea for the reunion and Michael Anthony as they al stand to make a lot of $$ off of this tour and all the original members should be able to get a piece of that pie regardless of personal feelings.

not saying the others were bad. but a lot of bands nobody ever hears of had decent members. often it takes something special to put them above the rest, and that was E Van Halen in this case.

You're right on! Although, when Dave split they lost that party band attitude and Dave's stage presence was irreplaceable. Liked Hagar but loved Diamond Dave.

Without Eddie, the bands first album would have been called " One man, and a pair of spandex"

he was decent. a lot of personality. and heck, could do back flips. i think Led Zeppelin was similar in that respect. The singer was very good, but without the guitarist, well, there are a **** load of good looking blonde guys out there that want to be singers. Not a lot of J Pages, E Van Halens.

although you are right, his personality was not possible to replace. he could be what he was, and pull it off, outrageous, but still affable.

It was Roth who convinced Eddie and Alex to name the band after themselves I think, actually. They were called something else before Roth joined. Mammoth I think.

Good review. That is VH's best album cover, but Fair Warning has the best VH tracks IMO. I saw them back in....hmmm 83, 84ish in K.C. when Diamond Dave was still the man and most of you here, well.... were not.....here I mean, as in on this planet....yet. What a show.

I also remember a couple of friends of mine who were a few years older than me played that first VH album. He had a little portable cassette player with batteries. They said, "check out this new band, the music is nothing like we have ever heard." They were right. At the time this album was released, there was no sound that could compare. I was an instant fan.

I saw the Women and Children First tour. General Admission at the Cape Cod Colisium in Massachusetts, 1980. An incredible show and I have been to hundreds and hundreds. What made David Lee Roth so good at the time was his energy. I have yet to see anything like it. I was 15 at the time. I remember being right up front and there were so many people that I pushed my body up into the crowd and hung there between the crowd. No s***. After like 20 minutes, I slowly moved toward the left side of the stage with the rest of the crowd and when I dropped to my feet I was about 10 feet in front of Eddie. He immediately broke into Eruption. OMG I will never forget that. I just got the chills thinking about it - 27 years ago. May 3rd, 1980. I still have the ticket stub!

Agreed, I always thought that Marq Torien (Bulletboys) would have been great with Van Halen.
