Salam Haleicom ya students
(Peace upon you in Arabic) Couple of years ago when I cam back from Thailand , I met again one of my good friends from my city name Mati, because me and him didn't do the army in Israel we were alone in our group of friends, back then I really didn't know how to play and mati took me as a project , Basically because he couldn't play anything interesting with me. He was really into metal, so he put the Pantera vulgar display of power that I owned by mistake , and I realized that this is a sound I want to produce. So I started listen to heavy stuff , back then I had a girlfriend who used to listen to havey stuff from Scandinavia ,black and such. After a while she introduces me to the band of Orphaned land. This is a very interesting group from Israel that combines all the elements of ethnic Arabic sounds. I went to there concerts and I fell in love (by the way they sing in English) . I was completely stunt how this group gathered what I had from my girlfriend and the Arabic influence Mati brought to me . (mati's father is an artist in Israel that combines rock with Moroccan influences. So this lesson is about this wonderful combination of the Arabic influence in Metal. Pay attention to the marks thay are really important they are very strong also, look at the power chords. So here is the main video main.wmv ( 7.71MB ) Number of downloads: 1553 . Video 1 : video_1.wmv ( 2.23MB ) Number of downloads: 728 I think this is something really typical you can ask somebody to give you rhythm like this and because it gives you an option to play in the the scales of harmonic and phrgiyen . The main difference is the 3'rd degree and here you just "don't take sides". video 1 e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|-----------7---7-----7-------7--7-----7---------8--8---8------8-8---8------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|-------5----------5--------5------5----------6-------6------6-----6-------- Video 2: video_2.wmv ( 3.87MB ) Number of downloads: 623 When I feel like improvising on this scale I found it very easy to start with something like this that brings me into to the mood. it is very important to bring , the open A string . it is very comment when you do Mohal. (an intro in Arabic songs). Try to take one of the background sounds I posted with the Darboka sounds. video 2 e|--------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|----------------2----------------------------2----------------------------| G|--------2-2-2-3----3--2h3r2h3--------2-2-2-3---3--2-----------------------| D|--------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|----0-----------------------------0---------------------------------------| E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------| e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|------------2---3\5--3r2-3r2h3r2-------------------------------------------| G|----2-2-2-3-----------------------3r--2------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|--0------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| scale: Amaj (harmonic) (A Bb C# D E F G A) e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|----------2-3----5-6--8--10------------------------------------------------| G|-------2-3---------------®-----------------------------------------------| D|------®------------------------------------------------------------------| A|----0----------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---®---------------------------------------------------------------------| Video 3 : video_3.wmv ( 1.78MB ) Number of downloads: 537 Usally when I want to bring tension to the atmosphere I go really high to this place and if you will notice it is the same position. Now at the begging I want high on the scale from the root note and now the direction is to go lower in the scale. You can think of an answer here. e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|-------10-10-10-11-10h11r10------/8---10--------8-8-8-10-11-10---6---------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|----0----------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|--5-5-5-6--8/10\8---------------3-3-3--5-6-5-2-----------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Video 4: video_4.wmv ( 1.65MB ) Number of downloads: 461 Here it is the same thing I am going now even higher. And I bring more tension by going like this and then finish in progression that I feel is very typical to these scales. Something I learned from orphaned land and Mati my friend. video 4 e|-----------------10-----12---------------10---12--13--12--10---------------| B|----10-10-10--11----11----------------10-----------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| e|----9-10-9-----------------------------------------------------------------| B|------------11-10-11-----------10-11-10---8--6--8--------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| scale postion: e|---------------9-10--12--13---15--17---------------------------------------| B|-------10--11--------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|----0----------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Video 5: video_5.wmv ( 1.45MB ) Number of downloads: 525 Now this looks almost the same but here I feel there is something really important. I know that soon I am going to bring the bombs of the riff , now the riff is going to be played in Am phergiyen. So the begging of this lick I am starting with a pull and the going the same in the harmonic scale. but just before the going down in the scale I put the C note that it is belonged to the phrgiyen . if you are going to listen to Orphaned land . you will see they used it a lot . Yossi the lead always bring this end to his killer lick/solos. And then Mati is diving on top with some serious heavey riffs. I love when these guys do that. video 5: e|-----------------------9-10--9h10r-----------------------------------------| B|-----10~~~~~-----10-11--------------11--10---11/13--11r10------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|-------10-10h11r10-/8-------8h10r8-/6--------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| scales: A(harmonic) e|---------------9-10--12--13---15--17---------------------------------------| B|-------10--11--------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|----0----------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Am phrgyien e|---------------10--12-13---15--17------------------------------------------| B|-----10-11--15-------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| video 6: video_6.wmv ( 4.1MB ) Number of downloads: 486 i always like to bring in the middle of jamms something like this it is not reallty even in the bit but it is heavey and it is bullid on the phrgiyen mod. pay close attantion on the marks you proudce this sound by pushin palm mute on open strings. e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|------*(0)--7----7--*(0)---7-----------*-8----8--*--8------*-5---5--*--5---| A|------*(0)--7----7--*(0)---7--x2-------*-8----8--*--8------*-5---5--*--5---| E|------*(0)--5----5--*(0)---5-----------*-6----6--*--6------*-3---3--*--3---| e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|------10-10-10-10---------10--10-10-10-------------------------------------| A|------10-10-10-10---------10--10-10-10-------------------------------------| E|------8--8--8--8----------6---6--6--6--------------------------------------| Well I hope you enjoyed my lesson . I want to thank for mati and yossi and all the guys in Orphaned land that influnced me in this genre. I love their music and I wait so bad for their new album "Or warrior" that is to be produced by Steve Wilson. Amazing.
How refreshing to see something completely different. This style of music is so far off my radar that I have not ever seen any kind of lesson or explanation about it before. I thought your lesson was extremely well presented - the video is very good and clear, the sound is excellent. I think that is a very good lesson in what until now has been a very esoteric style. Clearly you will be expanding some horizons with this lesson. I am struggling to find any fault with it in order to help you improve, I will only re-iterate what I have said previously. Because you are making your guitar a classroom, you have to dress it as one, and you need dot markers on your guitar neck so that people watching can see more easily where your fingers are. Whilst by no means is that a major problem, it is something to take on board. In my opinion, you need to take every opportunity to increase other peoples ability to learn. I think that was worthy of a 5* rating. well done. Salam Aleikum -------------------- its not easy
