GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Logic Test
Posted by: Fsgdjv Jan 26 2008, 05:49 PM
Ok, I was bored today since my fingers hurt and I can't play guitar, so I found this logic test, quite fun actually, even though some of the questions are a bit stupid.
http://www.proveyourlogic.com/
Try to beat it!
EDIT: Well, it doesn't really have anything to do with how good you are at logical thinking, but it's still great fun.
Posted by: Smikey2006 Jan 26 2008, 05:57 PM
I clearly have no logic.. i understood number 1.. number 2 stumped me i had to guess and check.. i tried using numbers but 15,20,20,6,6,19,19,5,14 told me nothing
figured it out
Posted by: Stevie·Ray·Vaughn Jan 26 2008, 06:05 PM
I got the first one, then trial-and-errored the 2nd one, got the 3rd one, and now im stumped on the 4th one
Posted by: Smikey2006 Jan 26 2008, 06:07 PM
now im stuck on 8

Personally I think the person that made this quiz should forget the logic and go back to learning basic grammar and spelling, some of the errors in here so far are annoying me.
"How much inches did the bookworm travel?"

Davidian, I still don't know why 8 is what it is either O_o, if I did I'd give you a hint. Can anyone tell me why 4 and 8 were what they were?

It doesnt say what order the books are in, they could be in any order.
[1][2][3] or [1][3][2]
All you know is that the bookworm starts at 1 and ends at 3.
Good luck!
Posted by: JVM Jan 26 2008, 11:59 PM
If it's 123, then the worm goes through the two inches of the pages of the first book, + the end cover and first cover of the second book so another .5, two inches of book 2s pages, so 4.5, end cover of 2 and first cover of 3 for another .5 or 5, and then two inches of 3s pages which is 7 which is not the answer.
If it's 132, then it goes through 2 inches of the first book, back cover of the first book and front cover of the third book for .5 (2.5) and then 2 inches of the third books pages for 4.5 which is also not the answer.
Still confused

And about 8 too... I still don't know why it's that answer...
Posted by: Nobody Jan 27 2008, 01:40 AM
Wow this is great
^ 8 isn't hard. This red-pinkish thing is the answer: (Copy it to Notepad to read it. Notepad will copy only the symbols, not the fontsize and fontcolor changes i've made.)
Looks kinda stupid but now only those who want to see the answer will see it :]
You just have to find the way the first four numbers change the result. How to solve:
2222 = 0 => It doesn't matter that we have a "2" in our 2581;
5555 = 0 => The same for the "5";
7111 = 0 => The "1" also doesn't have any "value";
Now we just have to find the "value" for "8".
5531 = 0 => "3" also doesn't have a "value";
9312 = 1 => "3","1" and "2" don't have values(beacause of the previous conclusions) and from this we know that "9" has the value of 1.
8809 = 6 => from "0000 = 4" we know that every "0" has a value of 1, and from the previous conclusion we know that "9" is equal to 1 too. So when whe subtract them from the equation we have left:
88 = 4 => "8" = 2.
In 2581 we have only the "8" has value(2) and this means that 2581 = 2.
HAhahh wow didn't know I've thought of so many things while searching for the answer

Okay, is #20 actually asking what it says it asks, or is it solveable without outside knowledge? Because it seems to me there are many ways of measuring a mountains height, disputes, etc. So basically is it a logic problem or a knowledge problem? If it's logic I'll keep thinking about it but if not what is the answer?

It tells us everest is the tallest mountain in the world. It's telling you this as a fact. If someone hadnt discovered the mountain, do you think that it makes everest non-existant as the tallest mountain? No, because even though its not been discovered, its still there.

No, it doesnt, same principle once you get to a particular stage though.
It says on the page with the 'code' or 'jibberish' page -1, so try going back a letter on each letter of the code to reveal the mystery.

I actually think most of the questions avoided falling into the "why not just make a computer calculate it" trap that most such "tests" fall into. That said, I've seen pretty much every single one of these (or a variation of them) in other areas...
One that's rarely used, and rather clever, and that I like in spite of having gotten really bored with these "find the next number" puzzles, is the one that goes like this:
CODE
1
1 1
2 1
1 2 1 1
1 1 1 2 2 1
?
Now find the next line (the line that has "?" for now)
In my opinion, though, these kinds of puzzles should really not be confused with tests of logic, or intelligence. They're mainly tests of "do you think like I do?"
Can't say where I got it from - then it's too easy to find the answer on the web ;o) (don't cheat
)
