I'd go to eBay and look for an RG or an S series (I got an S470 w/ case for 301.01 a couple months ago). If you want a double octave neck (24 frets) go for the RG.

I would suggest RG350EX but it's a bit over your price-range. Try finding it used. It sure is a guitar to thing of.

my guitar is the RG 2EX1, found on musicansfriend for 300. it has two ghetto EMGs, a fixed bridge, and 24 frets.

I HIGHLY recommend ebay since most midrange guitars from IBZ do not hold their value at all, but the high end ones don't seem to share that problem, you can probably get the RG350EX for your budget. I've had great experiences buying off ebay (bought 4 guitars off ebay so far, sold 2) just make sure you get it from a reputable buyer!

I've been looking into the RoadStar/RS series from the 80's lately. They were 'super strat' type guitars that were common back then, made from like 83 to 88 or so before they were evolved into the RG series. Depending on when they were made and what model number, you'll see them with dual humbuckers, three single coils, or one humbucker (in the bridge position) and two singls coils.

The necks are a little bit thicker than modern Ibanez necks from what I've read, but still very comfortable.

Potential issues are typical of what you'd see with a 20+ year old guitar. You need to give it a close look for fret wear, damage, etc. There are some nice ones out there to be found. A lot of them were fitted with the old Ibanez ProRokr floating bridge which can be a little problematic and replacement parts are very hard to find.

I don't have any first-hand experience with one of these yet. I'm still considering it, but haven't moved on any yet. It sounds like it's up my alley except for the bridge....which if I have problems with it, I'd probably just block it until I can get a luthier to dig the cavity deeper and put in a modern, more stable floating trem.

I'll follow up if I get my hands on one...either bought, or just a try-out.
