I am trying to put together a home studio and have been wanting to buy a MIDI keyboard since a long time. I was eyeing on MAudio Axiom 61 key till now until I recently found Novation Impulse. I saw reviews that Axiom keys are sticky and that it has blue screen of death issues. Impulse has more features (I don't know if I will use them though) but the build looks cheap.

Anyone has any experience with these 2 keyboards? Please suggest me which one is better in terms of use and feel or any other better alternative out there..

Thanks!

As anyone who seen one of my REC submissions can tell, I'm not a guitarist, I'm a keyboard player. I've gone through a lot of keyboards and overall I've had better luck with the quality of Novation than Axiom. One thing that only Novation offers is Automap, which if you're interested in remote control of plugins, is an important feature. Axiom does have a some nice features when working with ProTools (they share the same parent company), but if you're not using ProTools, I'd recommend the Novation.

As far as others to consider, I like the Roland A800Pro, so you might want to check that out. But if you don't like to use a pitch/mod stick, that might not work for you.

I've got the MAUDIO KEYSTATION and I can vouch for it being a handy piece of gear at a cheap price. Plug and play, works with every Mac app I"ve every tried it on, USB connection, no external power required. HOWEVER, at that price point you DO NOT get weighted keys, and the spring loads are a bit springy in the keys. It does feel like a cheap, plastic, keyboard controller. But it does get the job done and you can use both hands on it if need be unlike the really small units which are really meant for one hand at a time. But if thats all you need then you can get a better price smile.gif

The AXIOM seems like a fine unit. But I've not tried it personally.

Thanks Rammikin. I used to use Pro Tools but their annoying rule of having to stick the iLok key occupying my USB port really started to freak me out. I use Logic now so I guess Novation is a good choice then. I will check out Roland.

Thanks Todd. I will check that out too.
