Marcus,

I got a podxt for my birthday yesterday, and I downloaded your solo patch. WOW!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif How much do I love that sound! My question is, now that I have a way of recording audio, and I can use a camcorder to record video, how do I put the two together? How do you do it?

Thanks,
Boris

Sorry Dave for kicking in your forum! biggrin.gif Feel free to hijack mine! wink.gif

You need video editing software to combine video and audio tracks. Something like Sony Vegas, or Adobe Premiere...there are many others but these 2 are the most popular!

Pavel,

What do you use? Or do you mic your amp and get the audio and video through the camcorder?

Thanks,
Boris

I use built-in camcorder mic. No special equipment. To mix it with backing track i use Sony Vegas 6.

Hello Boris,

Congrats on you PODxt! I see you like it already smile.gif

About the video editing software; I use iMovie smile.gif. Since I'm on a Mac and don't need many advanced features iMovie works ok for me. If you're on a PC I'm sure there are lots of great free programs to download, legal of course.

Pavel, are the programs you mentioned free?

You can do audio to video with the bigger sequencing software packages like Cubase (I think from Sl/X3 and up), Nuendo and also Sequoia. One thing to be aware of s that these are not cheap - SX is about 900 Euros for a new copy although you can upgrade/crossgrade for less. If you aren't already using one of these and have a sequencer then Vegas/Premiere are probably better if you want to concentrate more on the video side. I think the sequencers are more about syncing the audio and visual and may not provide much by way of video editing/production. Muris may know more regarding Cubase SX and its audio-video capabilities.

Cheers,
Tony

There are 3 or 3 cheraper Video editing suites out there, my fave is Adobe Premiere Elements (which is a cutdown of Adobe Elements which IS expensive so don;t confuse the two!)

Hello Marcus,

As it turns out, I switched to the Mac about a year ago (love my macbookpro biggrin.gif ). As a developer, my primary concern was to learn the API, so I haven't spent a lot of time actually learning the environment. Its great that I will be able to duplicate your recording setup without much fuss. Makes me very happy. Let me see if I understand you correctly. You film yourself using a camcorder and record the audio right of the podxt (through riffworks I assume). Then you download the video from the camcorder in to iMovie. Import the audio, and combine the two. Is that it in broad strokes?

Thanks,
Boris

Actually,I'm using SX 3 only for audio part of lesson,to make backing track and record guitar.
Latter on I use Vegas to mix video from handycam and audio which I export as mp3 from SX3.

Yep, you got it right Boris. But I use ProTools to record the audio (not RiffWorks). Check this site for details about ProTools: www.digidesign.com

PS: Great to have another Mac-person here! smile.gif

Hi Ben,

As I understand it you need to sync video and audio which requires accurate time data. (You might be able to get away without if you don't need accurate sync.)

My wife who works in radio production swears by SMPTE/EBU 25 fps time code Ben (or 30fps if you use the US video system). You should record a digital longitudinal time code (LTC) on your video tape to position the audio and the visual. That will essentially give an accurate digital time stamp all down the tape. You then essentially sync to the recorded time code. Here's an example from Canon
I don't, and never have done video, but I'd imagine that the professionals then link via an EBU interface to a pc and any external hardware bit like a BNC timeclock.
Cheers,
Tony

Any by RME - low latency, pro audio, zero load on the pc, some of the best drivers in the business. You an chose different setups so have a lot more say in the number and type of inputs and outputs. Mine has analogue, spdif, EBU and 32 channel adat in and out, bnc wordclock as master or slave and can be daisy chained. If you want to sync audio and video it has LTC as welll. RME are pretty much industry standard for recording and editing. Hammerfall DSP mixer is a great latency fully open ended mixer.

The only downside is the price - my HDSP costs about 500euros.

I've had mine for 3 years and its never caused a problem - despite it now residing in it's 3rd computer home.

Cheers,
Tony
