Good point here Gabe - I see Kotzen's evolution towards fingerstyle as a very interesting one. Honestly, his youth albums - the shreddy ones have no appeal to me whatsoever, but after he began his evolution into a bluesier shredder, his music became incredibly attractive to me. Especially because he also sings so damn well!

You can hear the big influences that soul/ funk and rnb had on him There is an interview in which he speaks about how he found vinyls with James Brown and such and how they changed his world - it's on one of his DVDs, tho I can't remember which one

I love your playing Darius!

I've had to switch to playing with a pick the last couple of days cause of injury, and I've discovered I don't miss it that much, plus it sounds much more expressive and natural. Plus you can go from a gentle brush to a full out snap/pop so the tonal range is great!

Thanks for that Winery Dogs link Gabriel, what a power trio! I've never heard of them and they're playing over here next month so perfect timing!

Thanx Stacey! I'm glad You enjoy it I usually use hybrid picking but in the more pop/blues/funk playing very often start my solos with fingers only I also like this very "slide'ish" feel while doing bends
