GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ This Years Album

Posted by: Doug Lane Jan 4 2014, 03:31 AM

Sup Forum!

As some of you may know, I'm looking at releasing my first official album this year. I have a drummer back home to collaborate with that wants to session for me, and I finally have the means to record the cream of the crop out of all the songs I've written over the past eight years of musical merriment, and I promise it's going to be awesome! How would everyone feel if I released it on behalf of GMC, and created videos and lessons to correspond with all of the tracks? I might be contacting some of you to request some guest appearances . I've written several songs with the intention of adding guest work in from my pals in GMC, including a track comprised entirely of collaborative efforts from GMC members.

This sounds really cool! I think releasing an album is one of the most exciting things! I'd be more than happy to contribute something if you wish. I'm looking forward to hearing the development of this album. smile.gif

I think the idea of collaborating with others here is a great idea. I've had the same idea in mind for a while now, to get someone to do a guest solo or something similar.

Funny thing you should be the first to respond; I had you in mind in particular for an ambient sort of track I've been working on fleshing out for a while now! The track will feature very minimal percussion, a mixture of analogue and digital sounds, and a long wash of delayed and reverbed harmony that effects all the notes in every subsequent 4-8 bars. I'll let you know as soon as I get a final decision on the structure of the track. I think you can add some incredible ambiance to the melting pot!

I do have one disclaimer for everyone to keep in mind. This will not be for any sort of profit. the only purposes of this album is to be a showcase for my own development as a musician, as well as the musicianship of every musician I choose to include. It will also be for promoting the well-being of GMC as a place to grow and nurture musicians of all kinds. I will be featuring tracks of several styles in this album. I want there to be a little somethin' somethin' for everyone who stumbles upon it!

That's awesome, thanks Doug! It should be a lot of fun, I'll be happy to help with the process. This is gonna be a great thing for the GMC community. 95% of my own stuff is non-commercial, so I'm 100% happy for non-commercial. In fact, I think that if it's free, that's the best because everyone will be happy to download it. biggrin.gif

Sounds like a great idea smile.gif I had a similar idea a while back about including students in a cd type project. It evolved in to more or less collabs in the end. But a student led project would be great smile.gif

Hi friend! All these ideas sound very good! I think that posting here the songs, with lessons and sharing the whole process of composing, producing and recording would be something really interesting! The collaborations will also add a lot to the whole project. There is some type of magic happening in GMC collabs and it would be awesome to capture it in an album.

All the best with the project mate! Let us know how we can help you.
