A hot pickup might be around 20k, this new Duncan is rated at 48k. Holy crap! And yes, I KNOW THAT DC RESISTANCE ISN"T THE END ALL AND BE ALL OF PICKUP MEASUREMENT smile.gif So that's out of the way s. smile.gif But anyhoo, here is a vid of Keith Merrow giving it a run. It doens't actually sound as "gainy" as I thought it would but it does sound nice IMHO. smile.gif NOT everyone's cup of tea obviously, but thought I'd share smile.gif

P.S. KEITH TEACHING THE ART OF COOL VIDS BY EXAMPLE: Take note of the camera placment, and what IS and IS NOT in the frame. Notice that there isn't any Laundry, Bedding, open closet, etc? These sorts of things create a negative impression on many (not all) viewers more often than not. Of course it's about the playing, but showmanship is also about "show" so this makes a very teachable moment. Want to gain ground on your youtube vids? Keep tight control of what the camera sees smile.gif

Hmmmm. I have zero interest in a 48k pickup, but I definitely need to learn much more about making cool Youtube vids! Thanks for sharing, Todd.

I have no idea what a 15K or a 48k pickup is. I'm guessing a 48k is better. huh.gif

sort of the most important factor on how hot (power ) a pick-up has.The hotter the Pup the more gain you can get

You can get higher resistance with thinner wire. You'll need to have more of it to get the volume and output, and an even stronger magnet to drive it.

It's like putting out a house fire with a fire hose = less resistance, vs. putting out a fire with a coffee straw = lots of resistance.

PAFs got it right in my opinion.

I accidentally made a 14k tele neck pickup with 46 awg and it sounded like crap. higher resistance doesn't always equal awesome. I found you can make cleaner pickups heavier with pedals, it's hard to make high resistance pickups sound decent clean. All said from my experiences.

As me about my Michigan-based handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups. Est. 2010 - I wind more for hobby and not for profit. I do pickup winding, rewinding, and some vintage repair as well.

The classic PAF smile.gif A vintage tone to be sure that has stood the test of time. Your not alone, lots of folks simply love the PAF and the JB. Hard to go wrong with either, especially for the money smile.gif As far as mass market pickups go, both are a fine choice.

I wouldn't expect it to be wound traditionally, probably mismatched coils or some filtering hidden inside it...
