GMC Forum _ Theory (Muris) _ Major/minor Arpeggios And Power Chords

Posted by: GodofFire16 Aug 23 2007, 10:57 AM

Hey Muris, I was wondering if you could tell me how I go about choosing arpeggios (using the basic major and minor shapes that Pavel teaches in his arpeggio lessons) that will fit over power chords. I would really like to know if there is some kind of system so that I can start including them into solos rolleyes.gif

Thanks biggrin.gif

Good one! :0

Deal with power chords is that they have root and 5th,no 3th.
It means that playing, per example,E power chord doesn't show you is it major or minor.
But playing few of them WILL show you which one is actually major or minor.
Let's take this progression,all in power chords,E C D.
E is a main chord,home chord.
C and D are notes from E minor scale.
Now you need to know chord on each degree of minor/major scale,to know is it major or minor.
In this case we have E minor,C major and D major..
you shall play Emin arpeggio over E power chord,C Major arpeggio over C chord
and D major arpeggio over D chord.

Now lets take E,C# and F# power chords.
Again E is the home chord.
Notes C# and F# are from E major scale and chords on those degrees are C# minor and F# minor.
Same thing, play major arpeggio over major chord, minor arpeggio over minor chord.

There you go. smile.gif
