Thanks for all the input mate smile.gif Sounds like a real Easter Egg biggrin.gif Peavy has made a lot of interesting instruments, but for me, aside the Wolfgang and the 5150 and 6150 there hasn't been that much fuss about all things Peavy.

Do you have anything recorded with them?

Yeah, if you're a fan of superstrats is like a hidden jem.
The Kramer NightSwan is another one that came around the same time, iirc this was Vivian Campbells creation. Rumour has it that Adrian Vandenberg met Campbell at some show, tried his guitar and wanted to have something similar. Adrian had a signature guitar with Fernandes before going to Peavey.
Peavey is generally considered to be budget stuff, and of course this affect people's opinions, even without having seen one in person. Wolfgang is a nice guitar also, never owned one but tested a few times and it feels really solid.

There's a funny story a couple of years ago when i almost had a deal with a Holland guy, about buying his Vandenberg Custom. Vandenberg is from Holland by the way. I talked to him about the deal and he said that another guy had called about it and wanted to buy it but hadn't been in touch for a week. He said i could have it if the other guy didn't buy it in two days. I waited 2 days and contacted the seller. He said he was sorry but the other guy had called and came to buy it within an hour. The guy was Adrian himself! smile.gif

I do have a video playing the Quilt Top Custom. I made up a solo over s backing track from some competition a few years back. Recorded into pc with Overloud software. The playing here is nothing to write home about so please ignore a few sour bends and my non-pro ability to create interesting solos. smile.gif

Very nice story man! biggrin.gif I think the solo fits the style of the guitar - that's a good thing - and also, I think that you are too hard on yourself - there were a few maybe uncertain bends, but the phrases are nice and you seem to have good control over your articulation! Why not put on some more of your creations here smile.gif I am sure that other folks are of the same mind as I am..

So a few days shipping and yesterday it arrived. It's in very nice condition. No fretwear or dings/nicks at all. Low action and setup well. First impression is that this is a real quality guitar. Haven't played it much but the EMG 60 in the neck sounds great after I raised it closer to the strings. Sparkly and tight but still not harsh, great for clean and creamy solos.
I often feel neck pickups get to muddy and bassy but this one is better. The 81 in the bridge is nothing special. Tight and hot, yes, but i miss some organic, dynamic feeling passives have. We'll see if I'll replace those with passives later on.
This guitar is incredibly light, probably lighter than any of my other superstrats. Not very common for a LP-type gitarr. It still has nice sustain and seems sturdy enough. Neck is nice and thin, thinner feel than I expected.
So first impression is good, but two things stand out as not so good compared to my other guitars, altough they were expected:
- upper fret access is not the best. Of course I'm used to 24 fret superstrats with excellent access.
- I find the extra jumbo frets hinder playability a bit, like they're in the way when moving sideways. Again, i have medium frets on all my other guitars, so it was expected. I will get used to it surely. After 2 hours of playing i feel I've adapted some already.

Hanging with the family between the Vandenberg brothers

Awesome mate! Congratulations! It looks beautiful and it seems to be a very good addition to the family. That's the reason why I don't like active EMGs, I end up missing dynamics and the real guitar sound. I would also go for some passive ones.

Well thanks! I'm pretty pleased with how the solo fit the song, but it sends shivers down my spine listening to it know, hearing those places where it sounds sour. But it's ok, I'll do better next time... smile.gif

Yeah, but I'll leave it as is for a while. I kind of like the 60 in the neck actually, it's really nice and balanced.
But I'm thinking I would like to put some medium output passives in this. I have enough guitars that does harder stuff with ease. Not to low output though, I'd still like it to be able to handle distortion well, like creamy fluid soloing.
I'm thinking Bareknuckle Rebel Yell. They get rave reviews and seem to fit particularly well in LP style mahogany guitars. They're supposed to be very articulate, clean and versatile. Very unforgiving also, so every mistake you make comes through. Good for practice purposes, haha... smile.gif

Nice one man! Yeah, you are a vet indeed smile.gif I particularly like the part from 0.37 onward - it has that Marco Sfogli style scale sequencing applied so well to this context biggrin.gif And yeah, I agree about the fact that when we listen back to older stuff, we usually think it's pretty good, as opposed to what we felt in the moment when we created it, frustrated with I don't know what note that we wanted to sound in another way and we forgot to listen to the ensemble and just enjoy it.. Time solves pretty much everything, doesn't it? smile.gif
