Though I'm not a full-fledged "jazzer" in terms of my chord knowledge and abilities, I DO love listening to all types of jazz, and I play on the funky outskirts of jazzland where funk meets jazz, in my projects. More in the vein of Greyboy Allstars, New Mastersounds, and the funky side of John Scofield.
I would suggest that you look through Stephane Lucarelli's videos here, for jazz stuff. And, though the various forms of "metal" are more popular here, I've learned all types of valuable tips/technique/advice here from students and teachers throughout the year. Some of my fav jazz players: John Scofield, Melvin Sparks, Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, Larry Carlton (his playing, not all of his music), George Benson (same), and of course.... Django Reinhardt. I live in Portland Oregon, and we have one of the nation's finest 24hr jazz stations. It streams free online, also, 100% listener supported: www.kmhd.org -------------------- Check out my awesome Nintendo Cover-band, EMULATOR!! http://www.reverbnation.com/emulator Now.....go practice!! |

I'm a new member, and I'm just checking to see where my fellow jazz cats are at...maybe we could get an improv thread going... I think that this is an awesome idea! Did you have in mind having a audio jazz backing track where you guys would record some improvisations over? It would be awesome to listen to and follow this thread Please let me know if you guys need me to post a backing track from some of our Jazz guitar lessons here - to get this going. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

I don't play much Jazz, but since I play and listen to a lot of Blues and wanted to understand the connection between Jazz and Blues I ended up enjoying listening to Jazz as well as Blues. I love the music of Joe Pass, Django, George Benson, Ted Greene, and lately I've been listening to quite a lot of John Scofield. I also play piano, so I listen to a lot of Jazz pianists as well.

What's the rules here about using backing tracks that are actual tunes? To stay on the safe side, let's use Youtube or Soundcloud for uploading those files - both can be embedded here. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net
