Original Techno Composition, Transillumination Options

Here's a techno song I just finished. I have composed a few techno songs and vibes in the past. Still gaining experience. I think this is the best I've done so far.

Hey FB. Good job, it all works. Some suggestions you might like to try.

Double some of your tracks and on the doubled tracks use evolving soundscape style pads. Keep your leads evolving over the life of the track to maintain interest - for that, just use simple effects and slowly change the effect parameters. Some of the sounds may already have that happening, but if so, I think you could ramp it up a bit more. Also, double your drum track, and on the double use some crazy effects. You'll be surprised how much extra energy and dynamics it can add.

Kind of. Not so much changing the theme (if by that you mean the melody), but evolving the textures and tones that play the melody and adding evolving beds behind the melody.

You could do that, but do it sparingly and don't let it take over. What I meant was simply duplicate a track and change the instrument to something with slow attack and long release. However, I'm assuming you used midi tracks and virtual instruments. If you physically recorded a keyboard you won't be able to do it as easily. Another simpler way to achieve a similar feel is adding evolving lines behind the main instruments. You can do this playing slow arpeggios or root notes and using instruments with lots of changing textures. If I get some time, I'll whip up an example to show you what I mean.

You've got songwriting ability. Add production skills to that and you'll be able to put out really good work. Electronica has a huge element of production ie. just playiing the tune is only a small part of making it work.

The Ueberschall stuff is great but I didn't find it very intuitive. I had to read the manual to get them going but being a computer major you might have the upper hand on an old fart like me. If you have a look around Big Fish Audio you might find some other free stuff. I dunno, haven't looked myself.
