GMC Forum _ Uploads _ Album Preview Opinions

Posted by: The Uncreator May 13 2010, 04:47 PM

I want some opinions on this, This for the most part is this finished mix of the album. I have finally recorded bass for every song and mixed it in as best as I could learn in the month or so I have been doing it (Sounds better if you have good speakers and/or headphones, Youtube compressed the video a bit).

The songs were "mastered" by myself, and by mastered I only mean that I tried to mix the final .wav files to a point where they sounded cohesive with one another (So please keep in mind these were not technically mastered, I will have that done probably at the end of the year, when I put a truly mastered album up for purchase). So I would like to know if you think these songs actually sound alike in production, and like they belong on the same album. Some songs were recorded over 3 years apart, Point Of Origin and Pair Annihilation are the biggest gaps in recording time (I would love to re-record these, and I indeed will - But lack the time. Pair Annihilation is over 45 tracks in Reaper and takes about 15-20 hours to record), but I think I was able to bring a cohesiveness to them, So let me know what you think.

And of course, if you think the mix of any one song is weird, please let me know, I still have about week before its release and enough time to make some changes if need be!

EDIT:

I know that "My Shadow, Cast Upon The Sun" sounds very weird in the video, I don't know why, there is no problem in the vegas project and the song sounds completely different in my windows media player and other media playback devices.

It's really, really good stuff but I don't follow this genre so I'm not sure how it might sound from someone who is a fan of this area.

Bear that in mind for this comment....to me, I would like to hear more low end coming through from the drums, a little more punch/boom - however, contextualise that against the fact that I really like cinematic stuff with booming orchestral percussion thundering through a large space.

Really good and I have no other suggestions. I hope you do well with it. smile.gif

the mix is pretty decent! drums have punch, you can differentiate different instruments quite good,

I think what's missing is precisely the final step, Overall punch and in-your-face sound which can be achieved through a good mastering

Theme of the album sounds great and everything. Mix is pretty good for the genre. Generally I'm missing overall mastering with more low end (bottom end) and punchy as everything sounds a bit to treble/high on my speaker (drums included), you should experiment with putting some nice compressor on the master channel etc...

But you mentioned doing professional mastering which is cool. Currently all songs are balanced and sound like they come from the same album which you wanted...

Good job once again on making/recording all this! smile.gif
