Bad Sustain, Certain fret

At fret 9 at the G string and some other places, the note just dies out. And the distortion goes terrible.
Ive said before I have sound troubles.

So i highered my strings and I could do pinch harmonics again, the guitar actually feels more comfortable with the strings not too low.

Anyway, havent changed the strings except high E in a year ohmy.gif

So a string change might be in place.

The question is will it solve this?

Theres only one way to find out wink.gif I've noticed that if I don't change the strings on my guitar for a long time the higher notes start to buzz. I think this is because a layer of filth forms around the string. A string change could fix this. You might also need a truss rod adjustment. Neither one is too difficult to do.

Wow, a year? At that point, you may be breaking some sort of record! Call Guiness Book! smile.gif Just kidding. Seriously, it's hard to tell what's going on with strings that old. Put a new pair on and see if it keeps happening. It sounds like they may have just been set a bit low. If the action is set to low, the strings sort of "Bottom Out" and don't resonate anymore.

Hi! There can be a few things
1) Nut it's located right before your first fret if it's warn out or made out of cheap plastic you guitar will start going out of tune
2) Bridge if it wasn't set up properly or made out of cheap metal it will cut strings and intonation will be off
3) Fret they can warn out as well and sometimes only one fret can be bad and the rest are fine
4) Intonation when guitar wasn't set up properly you will loose a lot of sustain you can find some tutorials on Youtube on how to set up your guitar but I would give it to a professional
5) neck adjustment there is a metal stick going through your guitar neck called anchor and if it wasn't set up properly it could be a problem as well
Just consult with a professional and they should be able to help you out!!!

It's definitely important to change the strings before attempting any type of setup. Once you are chaning the strings, try to adjust intonation and tune up your guitar properly, and see if it works.

I usually change strings once every 2 - 3 months as I am using those coated Elixir strings on all my guitars, but it depends on how much I am playing on each guitar. For instance, I haven't changed the strings on the baritone since October last year, because I usually don't use it THAT much for playing daily and 12-68 coated strings are pretty lasting, I'd say. But I think I'm gonna change them today just because this post urges me to laugh.gif

If you are using normal strings, try and change them monthly as the guys suggested, but you can also try coated strings to see how you;re faring with them smile.gif Elixirs have always been awesome and I get everything I need from them.

Elixir's are perfect for me... It's a matter of taste I guess but after trying them, I couldn't play on any other strings, it would just feel like something is wrong.

Just getting mad right now not to have a functioning guitar.
The fender keeps staying out of tune.

Ibanez has this sustain problem, I hope a string change will fix it, but now I cant even higher the pickups, damn instrucion book made my loosen them. I can only read it in english, im not so familiar with english guitar terms.

Its even worse not to get your gear than if the practicing goes bad.

EDIT: to mention both of my guitars are high quality instruments.
Well the Ibanez isnt exactly a premium tongue.gif, but its in the "prestige" series and a really fine instrument. It goes for maybe 1200$

Only the single coil it seems. The screws will just loosen the pickup..
