I'm glad to have such an inspiring mentor too! smile.gif

So, here are my answers to your questions:

1. What are your goals?
I would like to divide my goals into short term and long term goals.
My short goal is to tighten up my technique - especially alternate picking. I not really sure about it cause I think to improve the technique in general seems to be a kind of long term goal because it takes time, right? But, there are so many songs I would love to play, and for me it feels like the technique is the barrier that holds me back.

Besides that I want to improve my theory knowledge, especially in the context of rock soloing.

I think my long term goal seems to be a little bit...let's say "spongy" wink.gif but anyway - as I mentioned above I think the technique it the thing that holds me back. And, my long term goal simply is to get such a good technique that I can just play the music I want to play.

Also I want to play in a band and write my own music.

2. What is your weakness?
I think my weaknesses are the technique and the missing theory knowledge.

3. What is your strongest point?
My strongest point is that I think I have a pretty good sense for rhythm and music. That doesn't mean that I can implement it to the guitar, but it's there in my head wink.gif

Also I can sing, which I think is also a point that helps me, e.g. for improvising.

4. Your favorite guitar players?
My favorite guitar players at the moment are Paul Gilbert, Richie Kotzen, Joe Bonamassa and some unknown guys.

So here is how to practice it:
You have to play those exercises at a very slow tempo, slower the better!
The reason why it's hard for you to play alternative picking is because your hands are not connected with each other, so we need to sync them!!!
When you are practicing slow you have a total control of your hands and you are developing muscle memory faster!
If you practice this exercises 30 minutes a day you will see results in a few weeks and will be really impressed!

sorry - had a pretty stressful last week. I didn't find the time to post something.

I started with your AP-excercises and, man, they are really cool. I hate those "1-2-3-4"-pattern exercises. And, yours are really musical smile.gif

During playing that patterns, a matching chord progression came to my mind. I recorded it and practiced along with it. That was much fun.

I would like to record it for you. So I could show you my first steps with it.

Is that okay?

I am glad you are being creative! I hate 1234 exercises myself and I think they are useless! I am all up to "Killing two ducks with one stone" And all exercises I will give you will help you to work on a few areas on the same time!

Good job! I would suggest to use click only without any backing tracks! It's really hard to understand if you are doing it right, this is a mechanical exercise and will have more progress just working with a metronome!

So I have a new assignment for you! We will start to get into improvisation more and I will explain you more tricks about making your solos "smart" and be able to improvise on the spot!
I also will join you on the next week and will record pieces myself to give you some ideas! It will be like a collab but only you and me!

The chords are E mi7 - A7 - Dmaj7
Over E mi7 I would like you to play E dorian scale

Over A7
F# minor pentatonic


Over D major 7
B minor Pentatonic


This is a very fun exercise and it will help you to get use to play different scales and pentatonics!
