GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Mesa F-30

Posted by: JVM Jan 20 2009, 04:08 AM

Well guys, I finally decided what amp to get. Some of you might remember I was considering a fender deluxe reverb reissue, which I almost got. However, I chose to stick with Mesa. I had an F-50 head and 112 combo amp, and decided I really liked how it sounded but it was still just too heavy to lug around. So I've gone to the f-30 in the same series.

It has el84 tubes, which is a bit of a change from the 6l6's in the '50, but I don't expect the change in tone to be drastic, I like both anyway. It's 30 watts, but has a 'dyna-watt' thingamadoozie that is supposed to increase power dynamically. It's also a really cool green vinyl and tan grillcloth unique color. Will update you guys when it gets here smile.gif

Mmm, green vinyl biggrin.gif

Sounds just great, I'm excited to hear what you think of it after spending some quality time with it. smile.gif

Awesome mate. Post some pics and samples when you get it, it seems like a beautiful amp wink.gif

Pic for those who are curious smile.gif I'll get some better ones when I get it.

Awesome!
I think you made the right choice man!

I've played the F-50, awesome amp smile.gif
The F-30 should be just as good, congrats on a fantastic amp! smile.gif

Posted by: JVM Jan 20 2009, 02:03 PM

Yeah, the f-50 really is quite... satisfying to play. I'm hoping something similarly satisfying in a more movable package smile.gif

Awesome dude, you gotta post some samples of that tone-monster when you get it!

I <3 Mesa's

I will. Should be able to properly record this beast, this time around smile.gif

wow looks great! Lately I've started to like EL84 more and more, today I'd pick one over EL34 or 6L6 tubes. EL84 sound more lively, imo that is.

I'll soon have an electro harmonix POG running in front of it as well, I've wanted one of those for a while. Should be here sometime next week, I think I'll get both of those at once.

Did you ever get around to posting any clips? I'm looking to buy one of these amps (once I sell one of my guitars).

That is a killer amp, I would (possibly) sell my own mother to get one!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I'm waiting for the POG, the ebay shop I bought it from said that Electro Harmonix had some computer problems and they couldn't get one til about three weeks after I bought it. It should be here any day this week though, then I plan to do a review.

And Matt, this amp is right up your alley, I think you'd love it!

Cool man, I'm hoping they have enough distortion for me. I don't want to use any pedals anymore, just straight in. So maybe for one of the clips, put it to 11 for me (like I had to ask haha).

You'll get 11 smile.gif I'll borrow my dad's les paul so you can hear humbuckers too. Right now I'm employing only a strat but I'm working on getting two others up and running, covering p-90 and humbucker sounds too. They probably won't be done in time though.

Cool, how did you pay for the f-30? (if ya don't mind me asking). The cheapest I can seem to find is $800us, plus $110 for shipping
