Why? I've been practicing it.

Posted by: Pavel Jul 1 2007, 01:01 AM

Right now i am listening to "Hillbilly Militia" by Rusty Cooley!

Why? Totally awesome, groovy riffs and in between totally crazy shred runs using all possible techniques and he still keeps those groovy riffs in between!

16 Horsepower. The drummer in my band had some songs of this band he sent me, some days ago.
Sure it was good, but maybe a little too sad/depressive for my taste(and I'm in a blackmetal band... irony tongue.gif).
Today I come to think of the band again, saw som videos of them on youtube. Decided to download(shame on me) Sackcloth 'n' Ashes. I really, really, really love the vocals. The sound and style itself is also really cool, and VERY unique. Never heard anything like this before. Someone called it goth-country. I guess it makes sense.

I recommend everyone to check them out:

Edit: I'm hooked on this s**t now biggrin.gif CHECK IT OUT!! Its soooooo awesome!

part A: wow, I haven't listened to Chevelle in like 2 years. I used to love them. I should dig up their CD

part B: I'm listening to Five for Fighting - 100 Years
~why? because it reminds me of a time period in my past - when I moved from New Jersey to Texas to be exact. Just that whole adventurous feeling of moving to a new place and getting to know it and such is so cool and this song brings it right back. Plus, Five for Fighting's vocalist is brilliant and unique. And I love the piano melody. Beautiful words, beautiful music, beautiful song all around.

Are You Dead Yet? album by Children of Bodom, as i type its on "living dead beat". Despite the hardcore Bodom fans hating on this album i think its got some clever musical ideas and impressive guitar work. I dunno, even though its metal i can almost feel this punk vibe come from the music. Pretty cool stuff....

When I first started playing in the 80s all Iplayed was Dokken and ACDC. Try Unchain the Night by Dokken. It has a very nice George Lynch lead.

I am listening to Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos

This is their best work in my opinion. A little more commercial than some of their other cds. The special release has a DVD of them in the studio that is very entertaining.

Posted by: Guitar34 Jul 20 2007, 06:04 AM

Im listing to sweet child 'o mine and getting really good at playing it too!!

Metallica - Fade to black

why? because I'm trying to learn it smile.gif and it's a boss song

Posted by: Anastasio123 Jul 20 2007, 07:28 AM

Right now I can't get enough of Opeth- Ghost Reveries. Definitely a great album.

Why?

Their melodies, dynamics, solos, lyrics, arrangments are remarkably original for a band that's given the harsh limitations of a label as a progressive DEATH metal band.

Also a few favorite tracks from DT- Train of Thought. Mainly because of Petrucci's guitar work.

& Watching - Queensryche - Mindcrime at the Moore - Disc 1 - IMO Operation Mindcrime is the best rock album from top to bottom ever recorded. If I had a choice of only one album/CD (showing my age with the album talk tongue.gif ) to keep it would be this one. It never gets old on me.

Dark Moor - The Moon

It's actually based on Beethoven's 6th Symphony but it sounds awesome the way they did it!

Posted by: Hemlok Jul 21 2007, 11:26 AM

Dark Moor, I might give them a listen, can you recommend an album Pavel?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am listening to John Lee Hooker - One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer

Why? Cos tonight... It is very relevant tongue.gif well the scotch and beer part, next in line is Wild Turkey bourbon. And then we will be complete smile.gif I suggest to anyone who loves the blues, John Lee Hooker...

I find I am not listening to metal much anymore, and I am finding older music is just amazing. Uninfluenced by music, music. smile.gif

+ 1 Rob.
Trower is an awesome player who can say more with one sustained note then a lot can say with a 100. Long Misty Days is my fav though Bridge of Sighs is close behind (and is on my Ipod). The original trio were an incredibly tight, musical act. (Trower still tours.)

What I'm listening to though is a recording of a concert by John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana from 1973. McLaughlin is awesome on it.

Cheers,
Tony

So very true ... in general ... I know nothing about Trower myself but applaud the principle. I am going to spend the next year teaching myself to play less notes, but make each one ache with meaning (I'll never be a shredder I guess, but even shredders play slow expressive songs occasionally).

I used to always damn these threads to hell, as they are mainly a place for people to boost their post counts. Every once in a while you'll see me post in one too. Though often only a couple of posts. smile.gif
