One of my most loved musicians, this guy's sense of melody is simply unsurpassed, his riffs are monstrous, and his solos are just beautiful.

Paul Waggoner - Tracking The Solo To "Selkies: The Endless Obsession"

And here is the band he is in, Between The Buried And Me.

I love Between the Buried and Me and he is a great guitarist for sure. So many great songs and I do like the vocals. The clean and Growled vocals he can do very well.

Yeah i love his voice as well, His screams/ growls are awesome, and his clean voice is amazing, especially in "Selkies: The Endless Obsession", "Backwards Marathon", and "Sun Of Nothing".

Prequel to the Sequel has some of the best screams. And the really cheesy French style section. biggrin.gif

My favourite guitarist also. After their set a couple weeks ago I got my picture taken with him and got to chat for a bit. Great guitarist and very modest about his skill.

Meh, I definately respect BTAM as musicians on their respective instruments and think they play them pretty well, but I am turned off largely by their songwriting style of starting with a riff while screaming over it, pausing for 0.5, new riff, new screams, pause, new riff, new screams, pause, new riff, etc, etc, and then some occasional total stoppage and a jazz/country/polka whatever section. I tried to listen to Colors and just couldn't get through it. My favorite song by them is Foam Born A, The Decade of Statues after it ruins it though. It always seems like they are almost trying too hard to be a progressive band.

Check out the song "Selkies: The Endless Obsession", It doesnt start out with screams, starts out with a keyboard riff thats just awesome, and then and awesome guitar riff.

Either way, to each his own.

There pretty good. Way too unnoticed for the genre they set fort on. The best metalcore band for me, even though I only occasionally spin there albums.

I wouldnt call them Metalcore though, far too progressive and diverse. They just dont sound anything like it, to me at least.

Great band, they really play their asses off so I can deal with the statue like live show. laugh.gif
I have Alaska and Colors and they are great albums, very catchy and interesting tunes. Everyone one of those guys are great at their instrument. I like the hardcore parts as well, I don't really dig the song or the screaming in that video tho, that's one of their older songs right?

Oh damn, this thread is about the guitar player, laugh.gif Yes, he is amazing technically and his note choice is excellent. I actually had given up on sweep picking till I heard him, I thought there was nowhere else to go creatively with the technique, because so many people now just use it as a flashy move rather than a melodic tool, I thought it had become almost a mockery of the instrument. He reminded me that sweeping can still be tasteful, creative, and very melodic and beautiful sounding. Great guitarist! smile.gif

I really don't think this guy is anything special at all it reminds me a lot of stuff i've already heard of before. I've heard a lot of players so for me it's nothing new just sounds like a copy of someone else

After listening to White Walls a couple times and Informal Gluttony I am gonna have to take back what I said, and say that SOME of their songs can get repetitive and annoying at times, but from about 7:00- to the end of White Walls, I really like that part and the solo is really cool.

I see where he is coming from, because if you listen to something like the last minute or so of Decade of Statues, if that is Dream Theater ripoff, I don't know what is, but he is still original in many aspects, mainly the harmonized soloing and dropped tunings without going all the way to a 7-string.
