a fender strat, if you can find one is a great guitar. Bc. Rich, fender, and epiphone should have some great guitars for that price.

You have already got some good advice here!

If you are a metalhead and looking for value for the bucs I think Ibanez is a good choice. Ibanez guitars with whammy bars can however be quite tricky to tune (which could be discouraging to a beginner) so make sure to force (or ask politely depending on the situation wink.gif ) the guitar salesman to show you how it's done...

...or perhaps we can get a lesson covering it...!? biggrin.gif

I prefer Epiphone if it isn't for just speedmetal or something very fast, otherwise Ibanez but I dont like to play on them very much.
I just love the neck of an Epiphone. rolleyes.gif

Ibanez and Epiphone definetly makes the best budget guitars. Squier is good too, their latest models have some really cool finish-designs aswell.

But as Kris said, be careful with budget Ibanez's with licenced floyd rose tremolos, they tend to drag the overall quality of the guitar down many notches.

Sometimes it seems to be down to which country the actual guitar was made. As a v quick generalisation USA and Japanese made guitars (regardless of brand) tend to be good. Many of the budget ones tend though to be made elsewhere - so it might be worth looking in to that aspect. There are a couple of threads about in the Gear Section where people tlak about this more smile.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

I also recommend epiphone, unless you really want a whammy bar.

so an ebaneez without a whammy bar then good value for your buck and easy to play , or keep in tune ,is there anybody out there with an ebeneze that can confirm they are good , my pal who plays the guitar sais to by an epiphone cause i cant afford a gibbson .but then again i have another friend who has a ebaneez guitar and swears by it ( no whammy bar though ) .

An Ibanez with no whammy is usually of good value, but so are Epiphones. Both good quality makers.
Try some out at your local store to see what you like best.
