Besides metal I am really digging country music, So I would like to buy a Banjo.
My question was , are there instructors here that also play banjo ?
Well I do not possess any banjo skill, I'm afraid !!
I'm just waiting for the 'Deliverance' references to come in........ oh wait, I just made one !!
Banjo is a tricky beast. I tried, thinking my fingerstyle skills would help, but that high G drone string that you play with the thumb throws things for a curve.
The right hand picking is the priority when playing bluegrass banjo, it trumps even playing the melody line. It's all forward, reverse rolls etc.
I am a big country fan well, banjo rolls can be studied on the guitar as well
I have no experience with playing the banjo whatsoever though
Here's a couple of quick licks from John 5 - who, in my opinion should stick to being the tremendous country player he is and cut it out with the masked Rob Zombie stuff
Several years ago I had a neighbor that played the banjo and was pretty damn good. We lived upstairs and our balconies were separated by a wall but we used to sit outside at night on the weekends and I would strum the acoustic while he did his banjo thing. Really cool and alway wanted to learn but other than that I've never had access to a banjo to play with.
I never played a Banjo but I know that Ramiro Delforte, an old friend and instructor here, got one some time ago, you should contact him to know the experience.
I also never had a chance to try it , I think that it isn't difficult to learn !
It would be a whole lot of fun to learn the banjo I'd play country music all day long. Yeee haaaww!
