Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Petrucci Made Easy by Ben Higgins

Hi, Nice melodic lesson. The long note at the 15th fret on the B string is not sustained and it makes some buzz noise so I had to double pick it. I don't know why this is happening. I still have this problem but only on some frets.

Hi Victor!

This is a great lesson and a good choice for you. You can play all the parts clean and clear, and it's good to see you focusing on vibrato and making your bending that precise. Great job with this elements!

The thing that needs more work here is timing. There is a tendency to go before the beat in most of the parts, but I think that it's more important in faster licks like the ones at 00:13 or 00:34. However, the timing thing is an issue that appears everywhere in this solo. I feel that you need to relax, breath and go more with the groove of the backing track.

I also think that your guitar has small pitch issues in the higher frets, maybe old strings? or calibration needed?

Other than that this is good mate. It's a 7!

YAY! You got this one down musically - well done it sounds great!

I agree that the faster sections are where you need to work, I would guess you have tried to speed it up too fast. You need to spend more time at the slower tempos where you can be totally relaxed and in control.

If some frets are buzzing it's either the string action or truss rod (or both!) that needs adjusting. It is a good idea to take your guitar to a luthier.

Sometimes a fret levelling job might be needed when buzzing frets are close to the neck joint (as seems to be the case here). This is a very common problem area as wood is a living material, which moves over time.

Keep up the great work - you get a 7 from me!

Hey there!

Bery cool choice of lesson. Relatively simple but still lot's of profit from practising and enjoyable listening.

First thing - I have an impression that you vibrate the notes with a little pitch boost. You do not cross the full release point, so it sound a litle sharp. You need to be very careful. It's a common issue. To be fair - it doesn't happen on all of the notes. Most visible at bent vibrato.

Your sound is nice, with some juciy mids that fit Petrucci's tone.

There are some timing slips like the one while you missed the notes and were trying to re-pick it smile.gif At 0:17 you simply rush things.

Around 0:28 there is more noticable pitch issue that rather refers to intonation of your guitar. Maek sure to recheck on higher frets when you tune the guitar. Don't always trus open strings alone.

Triplet runs around 0:39 - rushing again. Focus only on the notes/accents that cover drum or click beats. this way other one will stretch alonmg and general timing will fit. at this moment it sound like you have and idea what to do but you are not 100% convinced on picking moments.
