I got a copy of Mackie Traction in a bundle. Is it worth installing?

Could be I'm not sure. If you are used to your current DAW, I think it would be better to stick with it. I feel that learning a new DAW just to experiment is something that is valuable experience, but not that valuable if you just wanna work and don't have that much time to spend it on relearning to commands.

It's worth installing just for the free Mackie VST plugins that come with it. Beyond that, it is a new approach to music production, with an interface that does not try to mimic a conventional recording console like most DAWs. If you check the forums for it, people tend to love it.

I have it installed but my computer is too old and slow to do anything with it. And like Ivan mentioned, you have to be geared up mentally to learn a whole new way of doing things.

Edit: Since you asked, I've been playing around with it and I have to say it's kind of cool. It's a bit more intuitive to get going on a project quickly, if you take the time to read the quick start first, which i didn't do. wink.gif

So far, I can't get Reaper to see the Mackie plugins.

Well, I hadn't even considered that! I'll load it up and take a look. I'm using Acoustica
Mixcraft which has served me well, but has limitations. Ableton confused me, Reaper
does as well to an extent. Just feeling around to upgrade my recording setup.

cheers
