I thought about it for a long time and last week I finally decided...
I sold my Marshall JVM410 and bought a used Peavey 6505+ with the money!!
The Marshall is way more versatile and I was sad to let my first tube head ever go but I play in a modern Metal band and the Peavey simply delivers a much tighter Metal tone than the Marshall...
Quote: "I hate you^^"
GZ - may it serve you well on the anvil of your music!!
COngratulations man, that head is really made for metal. I'm not sure if that cab is good match, perhaps you can test it with some other cabs as well, but head will definitely deliver!
Congratulations Zakk! The gear professor finally got some choice.
Don't worry Ivan^^ The 1960 AV cab is loaded with Vintage 30s - they deliver a serious Metal tone!
It's the second most used cab for any kind of metal right after the Mesa Rectifier box with V30s (which sounds the same except for more bass and less mids).
nice man! im glad it got to you safe, now crank it man!!
video review ?
Excellent choice man! I used this amp the last month and I can describe it in one word: METAL!
I WILL! ROBB YOU!
Congratulations man!
Fun fact: I play this baby on the clean channel for metal rythm !!!
The lead channel packs a lot of gain and heaviness but when you switch the crunch mode on in the clean channel and crank the gain way up it also becomes a high gain channel that sounds even heavier and tighter than the lead channel!!
The downside is that you can't play clean anymore but the Peavey has a pretty bad clean tone so nothing of value was lost^^
There is also a 60 watt 1x12 6505+ combo for considerably less money!
A surprise Looks like a good choise.
That amp bleeds metal from tubes!!. Excelent choice Zakk. Congrats
The amp has 6 preamp tubes and 120W, it should be enough..
Wow what a great choice, Zakk! Where will you post the live vids? I'm really curious about the sound
And about the Marshall cab, I played a gig last week on a Krankenstein head and Marshall with V30s cab and it sounded more metal than it's original Krank cabs!
I am going to post a thread about the concert after I played the gig!
Wow! You were so chuffed wih the marshall when you got it too! I hear what you're saying though, those peaveys are proper metal machines.

I will get myself another JVM someday but for now I can't afford two tube heads at a time...
Can't wait to hear it man!
Congrats Zakk, I bet that thing roars
Congrats on getting that amp! It makes sense since you're in a metal band and like the sound of that amp delivers!
I bet it can get loud! I wouldn't have room in my bedroom for that. I don't perform live either so I couldn't use something this big -----yet!
Congrats!
Is this head metal-sounding exclusively or could you pull of some bluesy or classic rock tones as well on occasion?
It is Eddie Van Halens signature amp (or at least it was).
The Peavey has a very tight and harsh clean channel that is hard to tame and distorts easily which works great for some classic rock riffs. The crunch knob adds a bit of gain to the clean channel and it now has enough gain for any kind of Rock (Ted Nudgent uses this channel)
The Lead channel packs A LOT of gain and the overall tightness of the amp makes it great for metal and extreme soloing (Van Haalen!) but with backed down gain you can get some modern rock sounds (Black Stone Cherry).
It is not the most versatile amp in the world but it is tweakable. It CAN do blues and classic Rock but its very tight and *in your face* response is not the first choice for those genres.
Oh and here is me playing this beast live:
It's definitely made like EVH's type of amp, although there is a new EVH signature amp that really rocks, I've heard it in play and it's crazy. Have you tried it Zakk?
I have played it Ivan and for my purposes the original Peavey is better.
The EVH (Fender) 5150 III is a great amp though! It has 3 independent channels with a better clean tone, a nicer crunch and a high gain channel. Overall it sounds a bit less modern and brutal compared to the Peavey but it is more versatile!
Good call The Marshall is a very fine head, but the Peavey will let you drive it harder. Great for Metal. Good choice!
Todd
oh my... great head!!
