So after all of this, nobody has come up with a magic pill and a snap of a finger, and one can instantly turn into vai or van halen yet? laugh.gif

laugh.gif that's actually pretty funny! You could take the same pills Eddie did and turn into him but not the way you were expecting.

i found one last week, doubled my speed overnight.

actually i discovered i counted beats on the metromome wrong, had done so since i came to this site. actually i was twice as fast as i had thought. the clues had been there. i thought i sounded faster than the numbers, but i figured numbers don't lie. I learned Crossroads and that is at 130bpm. I just figured that in the 1960's Clapton era, that 130bpm was not like today. as stupid as this sounds, it is the truth. i blame Canon Rock. It says 100bpm on the front. I did not realize that is just the slow beginning part, the fast part turns out to be 200bpm.

edit: i will say this, thinking i sucked that bad, really motivated me to improve. Kris should lie to new students about this, so they all think they are only half as fast as they are. They will hear about the speeds of other guys, and think they totally suck well water like if felt. Great motivational tactic.

You could call the pills i take magic .Not to turn into Eddie or Vai but, they keep me out of pain and able to continue playing guitar after my accident. They actually get me more into playing guitar.BY the way im prescribed them by a doctor nothing illegal as i dont recommend that.I can sit and play for hours on them.I know this isnt exactly what you were thinking when making this topic but it fel into a part of my life that helps me.I could never imagine a disability stoping me from playing guitar .

Besides, needing to be better at guitar is a medical condition we all suffer from, no reason a doctor shouldn't help us with painkillers, anti-inflamatories ... smile.gif

Amen,
I would hurt so bad i coudnt do it without them.I had to learn to walk, talk, and bascially function after i got out of hospital.Funny though that i had to learn to do all that over again but the guitar playing i never lost.Ofcourse i had already been playing for 7or 8 years before it happened.I'm so thankful i never had any damage to my hands or arms, but even if i did i would still try whatever i could.I have seen a guy that played a guitar with his feet NO JOKE.Ofcourse he couldnt sweep pick biggrin.gif but very very impressive for the condition he was in.Its that determination that makes you unstopable.

in case you don't know the story of Les Paul and his injury, here it is.....

"Mr. Paul's jaunty style and lilting spirit belie a life of physical adversity. In 1948, on his way to a performance with Mary Ford, their car slid on an icy bridge and crashed into a support. Mr. Paul, in the passenger seat, threw his left arm across his wife's face to protect her. He was seriously injured, requiring on-and-off hospitalization for nearly two years. His arm had been smashed in numerous places, and doctors told him that they could set it in one position but that he would have no mobility after that. Mr. Paul told them to set it in a guitar-playing position, at almost a 90-degree angle at the elbow. That is how it is today."

If you are on painkillers. I must warn you man. It may make you want to play it more. And make you better, but believe me I know from experience. And listen to me when i say this. There highly addictive, and just wait till you dont need them anymore because the pain is gone. You will sound probably much worse. Your body will have to recuperate from the damage of the pills. And also note. Just because you dont feel any pain. That doesnt mean its not there!!

Edit: Just tryin to look at for a fellow GMCer hoping he wont fall into the same fate i fell into 2 years ago. I hate pills. I hate even taking tylenol now!!

was not going to say anything, but Ryan is right on the mark. keep away from mind altering drugs, prescribed or otherwise, as much as possible. try to gut it out as much as you can, handle it with minimum drugs. i understand for people with chronic severe pain, well there is no alternative really, that can make life not worth living.
