 Hello Todd! Thanks for asking for some "mentoring" on the sweeped arpeggios I did in my solo in the Black Sabbath Collaboration. I've made a video explaining some of the techniques and thinking behind this sweeped/tapped arpeggio. I noticed in the video that I don't talk much about pick direction, but given that we're talking sweeps it should come fairly natural. To explain it a bit further however, you will want to do all down strokes till the turn-around on the highest string. In this case the 12th fret, where you will do an up stroke, a pull off and then descend through the strings with sweeped upstrokes. I hope this makes sense - if not feel free to ask for further details. Very cool stuff! Many thanks! I'm on it. i'll make a vid as soon as it's presentable enough to play. I sorta turned away from sweeps/arps a long time ago as sooo many folks were doing it non stop while i was learning to play. Folks like Randy Cooley and other seem to rely on it instead of playing actual melodic bits. So I focused on picking instead. Spent a LOT of drill time working on hand synch/precision. It's about time I opened up to sweeps/arps. There is always something to learn, no matter what stage you are at, and it can come from anywhere. In this case, a very talented student who has obviously put in wads of practice. BTW Nice Ibby!!
