Quick Licks #88 - Single String Strike Once Hammer Many

It can be played on every string so give that a try as well. It just becomes a Minor Scale for whatever string you play it on. E.G. G Minor, B Minor. I'm doing a "Strike Once Hammer Many" approach here. So keep a good palm mute to dampen string noise and then strike the open string and hammer on the fretted notes. It's a very simple idea that can sound very cool in execution. The muting makes it sound almost like each note is a strike. So it sounds like a four note per string scale. You could play this without using the open string, it would just be much more difficult. This is a great lick to build some speed on!! 88.gp5 ( 1.83K ) Number of downloads: 11980 Give it a whirl!! You took it one step further and didn't use a pick at all showing how much progress your left hand is making. This is not an easy lick to play with just one hand if one has not put time in the wood shed. You clearly have put time in the woodshed so it's no problem at all! Score. That one bit slows most folks down quite a bit until you get to the point where you can just land right in to the next change. For this to work, you need to memorize the shapes involved ahead of time so they the fingers just land where they are supposed to land. The way I got faster at it was to run it up toward the bridge and then back down toward the nut. Just back and forth over and over then switch to the next string, next string etc. It did take a few days. Once I memorized the shapes I could eventually do it without looking at the neck at which point I put on the lord of the rings trilogy and just kept running it. By the ending of watching the trilogy twice, I had it running pretty smooth and I could do it at speed without looking. God Bless Tolkien!!
