So, this time the travel addict couple have decided to explore Berlin for a few nights.

Again, I know very little about what to expect and what to see but we are both looking for a healthy combination of tourist attractions and berlin culture.

We've already decided on a few things we want to see... Touristy landmarks such as checkpoint charlie, Reichstag, brandenburger and some less known places such as Tacheles.

But thats really about it!

We leave on Friday and are staying in central berlin at a hostel called The Generator. We'll only be there a few nights, leaving sunday evening, so would appreciate any "must see"'s and "must do"'s.

Thanks in advance guys smile.gif

I have been to Berlin a couple of times, but not as a tourist.
The only thing I can recommend is a snack bar called "Konnopke" - (currywurst) tongue.gif

A couple of possibilities:

From the Brandenburg gate take a walk down the Unter den Linden toward Alexanderplatz. The monument of Frederik the Great on his horse is round there and there are a lot of big buildings, a lot are foreign embassy buildings.

If you're happy with middle eastern/Turkish food head to East Kreuzberg district. There are some interesting shops and bars here as well and it's quite cosmopolitan.

One of the better art galleries imo is the Gemaldegalerie - part of the Tiergarten and Zoological gardens. The gardens are probably worth a visit just to get away from the city if you need the 'space' smile.gif .

Berlin is def one of the european metropoles and has an awesome nightlife that's up to par with Paris or London. You just have to know where to go. Be aware people party through the night. Clubs get really cool at around 2 am and close sometimes at 6-7 in the morning. The hardcore partiers go to chillout places ot have breakfast before the go home.

rock clubs:

if you like Indie/Alternative or just some noise, beer and burgers. Great place

another top place

and some good rock bar for some heavy rock and prog rock up to hardcore.

other culture things:

Berlin has some Museeums that are worldleading and if you like art and history you can't miss them

The ones you have to see are: Altes Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Neue National Galerie and the Pergamon Museum

if you like music museums the Ramones Museum is a nice place for sure.
