I have no idea what it will be like in 50 years but it's pretty easy to access what others have said about "the future of music" during the last not just 50 but 150 years.
Classical music (along with ballet) - proclaimed dead in 1913 (Paris debut of Stravinsky's Le Sacre) Jazz - proclaimed dead in 1959 Rock - proclaimed dead multiple times starting in 1957 (Elvis enters army) then in 1970 (post Woodstock/Altamont), 1975/76 - Disco, 1977/78 (dawn of Punk), etc. Most Sci-fi depicted it to be a bunch bleeps and bloops. Though Star Wars somewhat correctly portrayed, with the Cantina Band, a retro jazz and R&B thing. In the late 80s or early 90s Miles Davis said that "in 20 years, music will be pure rhythm". Witness the ubiquity of Hip-Hop. Jim Morrison said this in 1969 ... "It might rely heavily on electronics, tapes, I can kind of envision maybe one person with a lot of machines, tapes and electronic setups, singing or speaking and using machines." Witness, EDM. Here are some other predictions from the past: From Spin ... http://www.spin.com/2015/10/back-to-the-fu...ld-predictions/ And ... http://blog.sonicbids.com/back-to-the-futu...-music-industry Again, I have no idea. I've been listening to pop music 'actively' since about 1970 and I've never been able to second guess anything. I'm sure there will be more 'retro' stuff appearing - that seems to be a pretty safe bet. This post has been edited by klasaine: Jan 16 2017, 04:19 PM -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

I know this much: the trends in popular music will be determined by pretty much the same thing it always has: youth will be trying to rebel against their parents' generation. As Ken says, for as many times as rock has been declared dead, I guarantee you there are groups of kids somewhere in your town right now gathered to make some raucous music that is intended to shock their parents. Oh, and of course they want to get chicks .
