Decent Digital Video Recorder?, Need an upgrade

I figure you guys make a lot of videos, whether you're an instructor making a lesson or a student using the REC forum - and so I was hoping you guys could help me pick out a new camcorder. I don't really know what to look for. My camcorder's picture is pretty fuzzy, I'm pretty much looking for "the best bang for your buck" deal - best quality at an affordable price. My max would be around $400-500, but if I can get something good for well under that it would be awesome. You guys got any advice or suggestions? Thanks!
