Ok so I have really been getting on well with the Am Pentatnonic position shifting recently and managed to break out the mold with it.
Now, I daily practice all the patterns shown in the speed picking videos religously to a metronome. I would like to apply these same patterns all over the fretboard but i feel i do not know enough scales in order to do this. I belive the patterns shown in the examples are based on G minor and E minor scales which is great, but i dont want to be stuck in these 2 boxes!! I would like to be able to move around with them like i do on the pentatnonic based scales (and like paul gilbert!!)

thanks for your help!

Here is a pentatonic scale chart at the bottom of this page. It is a blues chart but it also seperates the blues note from the pentatonic notes on the fret board. this chart shows the 5 boxes in each key. This was helpful for me to move around the fret board. If you will notice all the patterns are the same as the Am pentatonic patterns. They just shift up or down the fret board to put them in a different key. Such as Gm or Em. ect...There is also a link on this page to other scales. (Basics) ...Anyway hope I didnt confuse you and I hope this chart will help.

chains, thankyou for your reply it is very useful. I was thinking more in terms of non pentatnoic scales, but rather say 3 note per string scales. Kinda like paul gilbert !!
